Using Data-Centered Storytelling To Enchant & Engage Your Email Audience

Using Data-Centered Storytelling To Enchant & Engage Your Email Audience | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Our goal as savvy email marketers is to look beyond the lure of the one-time conversion and strive to build an ongoing relationship between consumers and our brands. Why is this goal so important? Because it’s been proven through many a marketing study that engaged customers become loyal customers and loyal customers are the most valuable segment in any list or database.

This type of highly engaged, loyal customer typically has higher overall lifetime value than the casual consumer. They’re also more likely to be an evangelist, introducing new customers to your brand in a very personal way and building the next layer of loyal customers.

But, how can you help to build a stronger bond with your customer base? In my last article, I outlined ways to stimulate an unengaged audience by increasing the relevancy of your email creative by including more dynamic content. Sharing relevant content demonstrates to customers that we know them as individuals and are dedicated to providing them with useful information, products or services. Using historical and behavior data is a great way to present content that’s tailored to their individual needs and preferences, but you also need to engage with your audience on an emotional level in order to achieve the goal of creating a true brand-loyal customer....

Let’s explore four creative ways in which email marketers have used data as a platform to build creative that forms a bond between their customers and their brand....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This post highlights the importance of customer engagement and how data can be used to tell interesting and meaningful stories. The four examples demonstrate how.

Illuminated Long Exposure Photos of Glowing Waterfalls

Illuminated Long Exposure Photos of Glowing Waterfalls | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
Neon Luminance is a brilliant light painting concept created by photographers Sean Lenz and Kristoffer Abildgaard of From the Lenz multimedia productions.

The duo used high-powered Cyalume glow sticks of various colors dropped into the waterfalls of Northern California to create an amazing pallet of light paintings. They were able to then capture these brilliant exposures varying from 30 seconds to 7 minutes of submerged trails of light as these sticks floated through the water current. To accomplish the rainbow-like effect seen, they combined several sticks together experimenting with different patterns of illumination.

And for you environmentalists, don't worry no harm came to the surrounding nature in this process! The sticks which are buoyant, were never actually opened and all collected at the end of each exposure captured, thus eliminating any toxic gunk from entering the natural water supply....

Why You Need More Wikipedia and Less Facebook | Forbes

Why You Need More Wikipedia and Less Facebook | Forbes | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

As I walked around SXSW and listened to the different presentations, I thought about how important it is to disengage from deadlines and commitments for a little while and consider new ideas and different perspectives. ...

To escape gravity’s hold, we have to do more than just interact with what’s conveniently presented to us. We have to make concerted efforts to interact with the unknown, to follow connections and to explicitly indulge our curiosity. Less Facebook; more Wikipedia.

For example, in a few minutes, and without even leaving Wikipedia, you can travel from the Tasmanian Devil to Tasmanian devils to Tasmanian tigers to thylacines to convergent evolution. And now you’ve just crossed the threshold from things to ideas, from the concrete noun “thylacine” to the idea of “convergent evolution.”

That’s an important moment because now you can start to use that idea to think about other things: your business, your customers, your competitors, whatever. But, you can reach this moment only if you indulge your curiosity—interact with the unknown....

The importance of being random and how it can spark creativity.

Adventures in Marketing: Polaroid Will Make an ‘Instagram Camera’ | PRNewser

Adventures in Marketing: Polaroid Will Make an ‘Instagram Camera’ | PRNewser | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

As if Instagram weren’t easy enough already, last week we learned that the Socialmatic, aka the “Instagram Camera”, is really going to happenthanks to a deal between an Italian inventor and the folks responsible for the Polaroid name. We find the concept behind this product amusing, but it also represents the latest step in an interesting rebranding experiment.

The old-school camera company went bankrupt more than a decade ago, and the folks who bought the name quickly began making money by licensing it to other brands. C&A Licensing, which owns the rights to all things “Polaroid”, already attempted to tie it to the smartphone craze earlier this year by planning a series of “FotoBar” locations that aim to put the brand back in business by aping the Apple Genius Bar retail model....

how to be fearlessly creative | Justine Musk | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

...I used to think: oh, hope, big deal. It couldn’t have been an invisibility cloak or the ability to teleport or a genie who looks like Keanu Reeves?

I have a new slant on that myth after reading Srinivasen S. Pillay’s remarkable book LIFE UNLOCKED, in which he draws from neuroscience to present strategies in overcoming fear.

Some of the best life advice I ever got was this: Whenever you make a decision out of fear, you will regret it.I’ve applied that to writing, to relationships (and the end of relationships), to life.

I’ve learned to separate my fears from my intuition and, at times, to follow my intuition through the fear.

How To Be Hilarious On Twitter, From A Writer Who Tweeted Her Way To TV | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
When a veteran stand-up comic is also funny on Twitter, it doesn’t exactly come as a shock. When an unknown phenom makes you physically choke on guffaws, though, it’s a revelation and also something of an extended audition.

...After catching the attention of the comedy cognoscenti in 2010, the then recent Harvard graduate soon got jobs writing on the Oscars and Disney’sA.N.T. Farm., before moving to a staff writer position at NBC’s ensemble sitcom Parks and Recreation. (The show was just renewed for a sixth season.) The in-demand writer is also an accomplished poet who’s writing asatirical guide to science for ladies.

Megan Amram’s frothy blend of dark humor and smart, surreal silliness has found more than 356,000 followers on Twitter so far. Although not everybody trying to generate laughs online is doing so for the same reasons, or with the same twisted flair, Amram’s consistent comedic quality is enviable for anyone trying to make their mark with brief bursts of humor. Ten Things You Love, Ten Things You Hate

Ten Things You Love, Ten Things You Hate | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

It’s one of my favorite pieces of writing advice from Ray Bradbury, and it’s blindingly brilliant in its utter simplicity. If you want to identify the ideas you should write about, the themes you can write passionately and believably about, follow this advice: Make a list of ten things you love, ten things you hate, and ten things you fear. Write to celebrate the things you love, and write to destroy the things you hate and fear.

Bradbury put it this way in an interview with his biographer, Sam Weller: “You can’t write for other people. You can’t write for the left or the right, this religion or that religion, or this belief or that belief. You have to write the way you see things.

I tell people, Make a list of ten things you hate and tear them down in a short story or poem. Make a list of ten things you love and celebrate them. When I wrote Fahrenheit 451 I hated book burners and I loved libraries. So there you are.”...

The most popular way of doing this is via blogging. With news websites and most blogs, you don’t need a journalism degree, you just need an interest and a passion.
