The Content Cafeteria Model allows users to identify themselves both on the site home page and on every page of every site section.

 

Each section of the site can be thought of as a microsite, having its own navigation, design, messaging, and conversion paths....

The concept behind This is deceptively simple, and if you’re the kind of person it’s meant to appeal to its allure should be immediately obvious: It’s a link-sharing network where every user is only allowed to share one link per day. That’s it.


There are no bells and whistles. There isn’t even a mobile app yet. Yet in the past two months since its soft launch it’s quickly catapulted to the top of the list of sites I visit daily, and I’m not alone.


Some of the most prominent journalists in media, from The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates to Slate’s David Plotz to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, are among its early adopters, and thousands more are clamoring for invites once they become available.


Though the site wasn’t created to specifically service journalists, many of its earliest users work in media, most likely because the initial invites were sent out to Andrew Golis’s professional circle of friends and colleagues. And This also happens to solve a problem faced by the very people — journalists — who spend all their time staring at content feeds all day: media overload....

One could argue, in fact, that my desire to learn more about your company is motivating my interest in your gated content in the first place. Either that, or I’m just casually curious. I mean, clearly your SEO is working. But just because I’ve arrived at your gate doesn’t mean I want to move in. Or, stated another way, being interested in sampling your content doesn’t equate to being interested in you. In Tinder-speak, just because I gave you an initial thumbs up doesn't mean I'm ready to hook-up. I’m just going to call it how I see it - I think you’re over-charging for your content....

The phrase “people trust people, not brand advertising” should be updated to state: “People trust real people and real friends,  not social media and/or brand advertising.” Nowhere is this more evident than among the Millennial generation, who for all their good intentions and social-do-goodness, are less trusting of what they read and see in social media.


An October 2014 Student Monitor survey queried college students about the the media through which they learn about products and services. The number one channel by which students preferred to receive product/service information was good old-fashioned word of mouth (48%). Interesting, “ads on the Internet” was second at 39%, well ahead of “information on the Internet” (21%) and “product reviews online” (18%)....

The answer? Absolutely. In a recent report by Havas Worldwide: Digital and the new Consumer: Emerging Paths to Purchase, a key finding showed that consumers regarded social media as a direct communications pipeline to brands.


In this study 61% of consumers said they trusted peer reviews online more than expert reviews. 52% said they liked to share their product purchases online and 74% of consumers said they do online research before purchasing a product. And here's the kicker, a staggering 51% of consumers said that a non-branded blog or social media platform would change their mind about a purchase they intended to make....

This past holiday season again highlighted the significance of mobile on shopping patterns, which may be on track to at least one tipping point.

A new forecast now has mobile accounting for a full half of all U.S. digital commerce revenue within two years.

For brands on Instagram, Likes don’t just represent engagement, they represent permission! Consumers who are liking an image that a brand produces are, in essence, inviting the brand into their life and acknowledging the brand’s creativity. Ultimately, this helps to create a more emotional connection. In effect, your brand is now in a screen along with consumers’ best friends.


Given the power of the “double-tap” on Instagram, Curalate was interested in discovering which types of image characteristics may drive more likes. In order to do so, we looked at a range of image features across 8,000,000 Instagram photos — including lightness, color, texture and background ratio — and found a few interesting results (see below). And although our data says what and not necessarily why, we have a strong hypothesis on the reasoning behind some of the results…


For instance, we found that images with a single dominant hue performed best. This is probably due to the fact that when you’re viewing an image just mere inches from your face, the absence of chaos can help you focus. Additionally, the fact that textured images generated more engagement could mean that various ridges and shadows grab eyeballs and cause a user to stop and take a harder look at a photo....

The most recent salvo comes in a new report from NinthDecimal, a mobile audience intelligence company. In its consumer packaged goods (CPG) “Mobile Audience Insights Report,” the company notes that “70 percent of consumers tried a new product as a direct result of seeing a mobile ad.


That represents a 49 percent increase over 2013. Indeed, the research suggests that mobile is increasingly influencing every stage of a consumer’s path-to-purchase....
