How To Serve Multiple Audiences By Using A Segmented Website Structure

How To Serve Multiple Audiences By Using A Segmented Website Structure | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
Serving multiple audiences is one of the biggest challenges in creating content for corporate websites. Sites with a 'something for everyone' architecture rarely satisfy anyone.

The Solution: Sites that are fully segmented by audience type.

The “Content Cafeteria” approach to site architecture attempts to overcome these problems. It is based on allowing users to self-identify their audience type and to navigate to a highly customized “microsite” built specially around the needs of that audience....

The Content Cafeteria Model allows users to identify themselves both on the site home page and on every page of every site section.

Each section of the site can be thought of as a microsite, having its own navigation, design, messaging, and conversion paths....

Now It's Official: More Google Searches Are Coming From Mobile Than Desktop | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Following years of speculation about the demise of desktop-based search, Google is officially announcing today that for the first time, more searches come from smartphones and tablets than from laptops and desktops.

Smartphones account for more than half of searches in 10 countries—including the U.S. and Japan—according to Google, which didn't release exact percentages or a full list of countries. But it is playing up mobile at its annual AdWords Performance Summit, being live-streamed this afternoon.

"The purchase funnel is officially dead," proclaimed Jerry Dischler, vp of product management at Google. "What we're seeing are these short bursts of activity that we're calling micro-moments. We see the new challenge for marketers is to be there at those moments anytime, anywhere....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Startups are an incredibly interesting business model with employees that have ambition, work hard and have great ideas.

Personally, I’ve worked with a number of them and I love the high pace environment. But the thing I loved the most about startups is the emphasis they put toward great design in both product and web presence. Stakes are high in order to accumulate exponential growth for these companies so design is placed on a pedestal.

How Micro-Moments Are Changing the Rules | Think with Google

How Micro-Moments Are Changing the Rules | Think with Google | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

What used to be our predictable, daily sessions online have been replaced by many fragmented interactions that now occur instantaneously. There are hundreds of these moments every day—checking the time, texting a spouse, chatting with friends on social media.

But then there are the other moments—the I want-to-know moments, I want-to-go moments, I want-to-do moments, and I want-to-buy moments—that really matter. We call these "micro-moments," and they're game changers for both consumers and brands.

Micro-moments occur when people reflexively turn to a device—increasingly a smartphone—to act on a need to learn something, do something, discover something, watch something, or buy something. They are intent-rich moments when decisions are made and preferences shaped. In these moments, consumers' expectations are higher than ever. The powerful computers we carry in our pockets have trained us to expect brands to immediately deliver exactly what we are looking for when we are looking. We want things right, and we want things right away....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Think about micro moments and how they will influence your approach to marketing. Thoughtful insights from Google.

How to Influence Customer Behavior Using Psychology

How to Influence Customer Behavior Using Psychology | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Marketing is ultimately the science of persuasion. We use ads to convince people to choose us over our competitors or to buy now rather than later. We study analytics to see how convincing we actually are.

A basic understanding of some common psychological principles can really improve your messaging and increase the likelihood that a person will “convert,” or take the action you want them to take.

Just remember that no truth is absolutely universal in either psychology or marketing. There will always be people and situations that don’t fit the norm, so be sure to test your results!...

"Marketing Seat At The Table" cartoon | Tom Fishburne: Marketoonist | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Around the executive table, marketing has traditionally had the hardest time proving their value. The correlation between marketing investment and revenue impact has often been fuzzy.

This is particularly true for consumer marketing. When a shopper picks up a particular bottle of shampoo in the grocery aisle, how much of that decision was influenced by marketing? How much of that decision related to years of brand investment, how much to the latest ad, how much to the recent packaging redesign, how much to the placement on shelf, how much to the in-store sales promotion? There are a lot of factors that go into any purchase. How much related to a brand-building message, and how much direct-response? Which tactics should get the credit, and therefore more investment in the future?...

Do you have the data? Key credibility question for marketing.

2 Charts That Prove the Importance of Custom LinkedIn Requests

2 Charts That Prove the Importance of Custom LinkedIn Requests | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
Sending generic LinkedIn requests -- we all do it from time to time. I'm certainly guilty of it.

Maybe you're in a rush. Maybe you're lost for words. Maybe you think the recipient of the request won't care. Hey, it's not like "I'd like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn" is offensive. What's the harm?

But as it turns out, generic LinkedIn requests can take a drastic toll on how the recipient views you. We all knew this from anecdotal stories, but now there's hard data to prove the damaging effect.

HubSpot's survey report "Is Social Selling Creepy?" shows that buyers and consumers react quite differently to a generic request than a customized one. Just look at the following two charts:...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Generic pitches on any social media, especially LinkedIn, are poor practice. Enough said!

Warren said: "If one analyses what a brand or organisation needs to excel at to deliver marketing success in a digital age, the result is a long list of PR outputs. In the new communications agenda, everything is PR.

At Siegel+Gale, we release an annual Global Brand Simplicity Index that examines the global state of simplicity for the world's leading brands.

The recent report also shows how consumers ranked 40 of the most prevalent, so-called "disruptive" brands in the US and UK. The biggest issue in marketing today, and the one we’re not discussing nearly enough, isn’t so much how to understand data. We can all learn and adapt to that. The biggest issue is that we’re not advancing our processes fast enough to actually put that data to work. According to a recent study by Digiday and Chute, marketers said that mining consumer insights (i.e. collecting data on content viewers) was the number one feature that would save their teams the most time if automated....

Steve Quartz: the neuroscientist who studies what's 'cool' and why

Steve Quartz: the neuroscientist who studies what's 'cool' and why | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Certain aspects of coolness, Quartz and Asp argue, reside in an identifiable part of the brain. “Specifically, we found that buying a desirable item or even finding a retro t-shirt in a thrift store impacts a part of the brain known as the medial prefrontal cortex,” Quartz said.

Put simply: cool things activate a pleasure center in the brain. “The concept of cool isn’t that complicated,” Quartz said. “But it’s interesting to look at how it gets played out. Cool is a social attribute, and as we dug into it, we saw that the concept has changed over the last forty or fifty years, from opposition and rebellion in the 1950s to today, where it is much more of a pro-social idea.”...

40 of the Best Social Media Analytics Tools for WordPress Users | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

willIn past posts on social media and content strategy I’ve always included a section called something along the lines of “measure, iterate, & repeat”. This essential step in content strategy is where you take time to reflect on your content’s performance, make data driven changes to your existing strategy, and try again. All of which is pretty hard to do if you don’t have some way of measuring your efforts.

That’s where social media analytics tools come in. They allow you to make informed decisions about your content strategy and (ideally) improve with each round of iteration. Which is why in today’s post I’ll be providing an overview of a wide variety of social media analytics tools WordPress users may wish to integrate into their overall content strategy efforts.
