How To Serve Multiple Audiences By Using A Segmented Website Structure

How To Serve Multiple Audiences By Using A Segmented Website Structure | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it
Serving multiple audiences is one of the biggest challenges in creating content for corporate websites. Sites with a 'something for everyone' architecture rarely satisfy anyone.

The Solution: Sites that are fully segmented by audience type.

The “Content Cafeteria” approach to site architecture attempts to overcome these problems. It is based on allowing users to self-identify their audience type and to navigate to a highly customized “microsite” built specially around the needs of that audience....

The Content Cafeteria Model allows users to identify themselves both on the site home page and on every page of every site section.

Each section of the site can be thought of as a microsite, having its own navigation, design, messaging, and conversion paths....

Pinning for PR: 3 successful Pinterest campaigns

Pinning for PR: 3 successful Pinterest campaigns | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

With each passing day, PR is being nudged away from the familiar comfort of text-based communications to more visual forms of communications, especially in digital campaigns.

Today, among other platforms, Pinterest must be part of your social PR campaign strategy, especially if your target audience is female. It’s easy to dismiss Pinterest as a site where women just share pictures of fashion and food, but do so at your peril. Consider this:

• One-third of the women in the U.S. use Pinterest, according to Pew Research Center’sSocial Media Update 2013.
• 85 percent of the estimated 40.1 million monthly Pinterest users in the United States in 2014 are female.
• New data from social sharing service ShareThis shows that for the first time, Pinterest outpaced email to become the third-most popular sharing channel in the fourth quarter of 2013.
• Pinterest is the channel of choice for moms, who share three times more than the average user, according to MarketingLand.com.

Still need to be convinced? Here are three examples of creative and effective PR campaigns using Pinterest as a central communications hub:

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Pinterest and PR can be a winning combination when integrated as these three successful campaigns show.

What comes next in social media measurement? | Digiday

What comes next in social media measurement? | Digiday | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Social media measurement is growing up.

After years of telling agencies that “likes” and “followers” would revolutionize advertising, social media is now being measured by metrics such as brand lift, purchase intent, click-through and sales. If those sound familiar, they should: They’re how most brand marketing is measured.

Shifting emphasis away from increasing a brand’s number of Facebook likes is largely due to brands’ experiencing decreased organic reach on the platform, said Matt Britton, MRY’s CEO. If a brand like Coca-Cola has 86 million followers but can’t reliably reach any of them, does it really have any followers at all?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Digiday takes a good look at trends in the world of social media measurement.

10 rules for designing emails your customers will want to read | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

When you design for email, you should make the most of the fleeting opportunity you have to make an impression on your subscribers. One of the Cialdini principles  of persuasion applies here: if you offer your readers great value through your email, they’ll gladly reciprocate by taking the time to read through and click on any links.

Of course, designing for email also entails responsive email design since almost half of all email opens today occur on a mobile device. Here are the can’t-miss components of successful email design....

Assuming that writing is “leadership at scale,” a writer’s greatest ally is re-publishing — previously written words can often find a whole new audience.

With that in mind, from June 2nd – July 2nd I started a little experiment. I put LinkedIn’s new publishing platform to the test. The execution was simple: Monday through Friday, I would post 1-2 previously published articles of mine on the site and gauge the response. I was primarily concerned with audience quality, overall reach, and deducing which topics worked on LinkedIn.

The results have been excellent: I amassed over 255,262 total views in a month....

6 Undeniable Reasons Why The Future of Web Design is Responsive | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

...There are two major methods for creating a mobile websites Responsive Design and Mobile Templates. Responsive design requires you only have one website that is coded to adapt to all screen size no matter what the device it’s being displayed on.In contrast, a mobile template is a completely separate entity requiring you to have a second mobile only website or sub-domain.

Mobile templates are also built for each specific, not per screen size. This can cause some issues as we will discuss below.

Responsive design, a term originally coined in a  2010 A List Apart article  by Ethan Marcotte, responsive design has been by far the most popular and widely used method for designing a mobile website. Here are just a few of the undeniable reasons your website needs to be responsive....

Your 2014 Digital Marketing Roadmap - Marketing Technology Blog

Your 2014 Digital Marketing Roadmap - Marketing Technology Blog | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Sometimes it’s easier to just follow the dotted line as you’re looking to ensure your digital marketing is balanced and complete. This infographic compliments of Two Legit aims to do just that, walking you through your web presence, mobile, ecommerce, outbound, inbound, content and social media marketing initiatives.+

One element lost in this infographic is the ability for all of the strategies to work with one another. For instance, utilizing your content marketing to power newsletters that are optimized for mobile devices. That’s not defined in this infographic but it’s an absolute necessity if you’d like to fully leverage email and ensure your emails are read properly. I’ve written before that the modern digital media consultant is more of a conductor, balancing the volumes of each strategy to make some sweet, sweet music!+

More often than not, we find that the key to marketing well isn’t doing everything… it’s balancing a combination of strategies, amplifying the impact by having them work together, and understanding how much of each strategy to initiate in order to maximize results. That said – this is still a great checklist to go down and ensure you’re not missing anything! This infographic also provides some statistics behind the digital marketing trends.
