Pinterest: The Social Search Goldmine

Pinterest: The Social Search Goldmine | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest is shaping up to be a very interesting and very different player. Many of us remember the quick rise in the search results that Flickr experienced a few years ago; however, this one is different.

Not Just Successful In Image Search

First of all, Pinterest is not only winning in image search; it is also winning in blended (regular mixed) search.

The second and even larger differentiator is the fact that Pinterest is all about driving website traffic vs. just posting an image. In most cases, people on Pinterest have a research mindset, and they fully expect when they click on an image containing a product to be brought to a product page.

Oh, did we also mention that it is a highly social asset with a long-term lifespan? Unlike a tweet or a Facebook post, which will be pushed down in the timeline and be seen by nobody after a few days, a pin does not disappear into cyberspace; it will live on for many months after its original creation..../

Une analyse pertinente : et si Pinterest était les plus intéressant des réseaux sociaux à suivre ...

David Sousa's curator insight, November 23, 5:08 PM

A new player is emerging in the social search landscape and it’s Pinterest. According to the article, over the last 12-18 months, the number of search engine results containing Pinterest content has nearly doubled. Its biggest search topics have to do with beauty, hair, and home, which has seen an increase of over 400 percent year-over-year. That is insane! Pinterest users going in with a certain mindset when searching for topics. They know what they want to view and fully expect to be brought to the product page when they click on the image or link they are viewing. A big part that is playing in the success of Pinterest is that it is delivering high quality and value traffic. The charts within the article show the overwhelming dominance that Pinterest has in terms of referral traffic. I have never used Pinterest before. I mainly thought of it as a site for females because most topics of pins are beauty, hair, clothing, and other topics that I am obviously not interested in. But it appears that it is becoming more than that now. I could probably go in with the mindset of looking for sports related pins or helpful workout tips which would make the site more interesting for me to use. However, I am trying to step away from social media and other networks so I doubt I will ever enter the world of Pinterest. It is interesting to see that it is making a rise in terms of social searching.

Facebook monetizes the past. Twitter the present. Pinterest, by organizing your wishes and dreams, can identify what you might do or buy in the future. That's a model worth $5 billion for the social network with almighty Google in its sights.

The soft-spoken Pinterest CEO was attending Cannes for the first time. Silbermann, 32, had just checked into his hotel and was planning to have a quick drink with his team before turning in to prep for his keynote speech the following morning. A few weeks earlier his social media service, especially popular with women and hobbyists, began experimenting with selling ads to show to its 70 million users.

With more demand than it could satisfy, Pinterest had limited its test to a mere dozen sponsors, wringing commitments of more than $1 million from each....

Pinterest's take on direct messages blows Twitter's out of the water

Pinterest's take on direct messages blows Twitter's out of the water | Public Relations & Social Media Insight | Scoop.it

If there’s one thing the App Store is saturated with, it’s messengers: WhatsApp, of course, but also Facebook’s, and Snapchat, and Hangouts, and Line, and Kik, and all the rest. So why would Pinterest, a social network for exploring your interests, spend time building a messenger?

The answer says a lot about where Pinterest is going — and the product itself is one of the best things we’ve seen from Pinterest to date.

In part, Pinterest messages simply closed the loop that the company stvvvgvgarted when they introduced the ability to send pins to your friends on the network last year. Today, Pinterest users send 2 million pins a day on the service. But to date there has been no native way of responding to the pins, short of sending your friend or co-worker an email.

That’s where Pinterest messages come in. "We see it as heavier weight than a Facebook Messenger," says Tom Watson, the product’s designer. "It’s more of a conversation around an object than just a quick hello."...

Pinterest serves up a Twitter message challenger.
