Kmart Forgets It's Still Summer, Begins Airing Holiday Ad

Kmart Forgets It's Still Summer, Begins Airing Holiday Ad | Communication Planning 1-- Analysis of a PR program | Scoop.it

Perhaps Kmart panicked after having a nightmare that it was November and had forgotten to put together a holiday ad campaign, or maybe some prankster at Sears changed a Kmart marketing exec’s desk calendar. Why else would the beleaguered retailer start airing a holiday shopping ad while it’s still summer?AdAge reports that Kmart started airing the below ad yesterday in various markets around this country, much of which is still reeling from all the back-to-school sales.Granted, it’s an ad for Kmart’s holiday layaway program so it makes sense that it would be on TV before the huge holiday commercial push, but can’t we at least wait until the autumnal equinox has come and gone before clogging our TVs with hallucinatory images of talking gingerbread men?...

Via Jeff Domansky
Megaan White's insight:

Might be a little early to start thinking about Christmas. I mean parents just spent anywhere from $75+ on back to school, per child. This probably wasn't the best time to remind parents that Christmas is coming.

I am not sure who made the choice at Kmart for this Holiday commmercial, but I don't think it was the best one. Even if the commercial is about their layaway program. It's still premature.

The Lines Between Social Media And Sports Continue To Blur - Forbes

The Lines Between Social Media And Sports Continue To Blur - Forbes | Communication Planning 1-- Analysis of a PR program | Scoop.it
The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) made history yesterday by becoming the first professional sports team in North America to don jerseys that had their Twitter names on the back of their jerseys.

Via Lisa Spencer
Megaan White's insight:

This is fantastic PR idea. The jerseys of the Philadelphia Wings have had the last names of the players replaced with their Twitter handles. I am wondering how long it is going to be before other teams do this. According to their marketing director this is happening because social media is becoming more prevelant in sports marketing.

This will cause a lot more traffic on each players twitter pages because fans will be eager to tweet them now.

Megaan White's insight:

Holy Lord. Could he be anymore self righteous? He goes on to say that the deal was for his daughter, but I seriously think it was for himeself. More money and the chance to actually design, this adidas deal is totally for himself.

"Im going to be bigger than wal-mart" is saying a bit much, Public relations side of things, this was a bad interview to do, just making himself look more and more like an jerk everyday.

The article says  they are sure if they are actually wearable but they exist. They have their own twitter handle and everything! Interesting.
It would be better PR and marketing if they are wearable, but even if they are, they sure stir up attention.

Megaan White's insight:

I suppose this is a marketing technique, but I still think it is a good article. Having "the Superstar, Stan Smith, Forum, Nizza and Samba – each that has been designed to include an Augmented Reality code on the shoe tongue."  is pretty cool. They are all the same sneaker just different colours and a different picture on the tongue of each. Rather interesting seeing as people like to have something different than their friends right?

As for the PR side of things, if these shoes sell really well and generate positive feedback then I see the amount of traffic and followers increasing on their sites. Great way to bounce back after all the negativity from the "shackle sneakers"

The Voice of Russia
The first days since the launch of Obamacare have been an unmitigated public relations disaster.
Megaan White's insight:

This is very interesting! A corporation is being granted $1 Million dollars to spread good stories about OBAMACARE?

Apparently Obamacare has become a PR nightmare for Obama and this is his solution? Success stories can only get a company so far.

Ethically is this right though? Many people in the US believe that Obamacare was nothing but lies and is turning out to be way worse than they were let on. Is more lies really going to help fix that ?

EA Sports, Tiger cut ties on golf video game

Megaan White's insight:

I wonder if this was Tiger Woods' own decision or if he was advised to do this by his PR person.

Cutting ties with this game could be bad for his image because people will be upset that the PGA game will no longer include him.

On the flip side, he could have chosen to do this in order to change his PR image. Perhaps by cutting ties with this game, it will be the start of a 'new' Woods. Much like Miley Cyrus did recently.

Interesting to read how the symbol of Adidas came to be.. That the tri fold was originally made to represent the contients respectively. Then in 2005 Adidas would be recongized by the three stripes which represent quality, leadership and flexibility.
Although good strategy... no one knows that is what they mean. If they want people to know that,, they should post it places. People would associate the logo and the company with those three positive things.

Adidas Caves, Pays Garment Workers What They’re Owed

Adidas Caves, Pays Garment Workers What They’re Owed | Communication Planning 1-- Analysis of a PR program | Scoop.it

Seventy students from across the U.S. got on an emergency conference call last Tuesday for news they’d been waiting over a year and a half to hear. Mariela Martinez, a student at Brown University, told the listeners, “The PT Kizone workers have reached a historic agreement with Adidas... They’re going to receive the severance that they’re legally owed!”

Via Leicester Worker
Megaan White's insight:

This is not good for the PR of adidas, they took way to long to pay the workers severance for closing the factory. Just because they did it, does not mean that they are excused for taking so long to pay it back. 1.8$million is not really that much to a muliti million dollar company, and there is no reason they should have taken that long.

Yet another nightmare for Rob Ford. Whether or not he made a mistake writing the letter in general or just simply choosing the wrong paper to actually out it on, it doesn't matter. He should take the journalists questions and answer them because walking away like he did and using the language he did will just cause him and his PR people a problem.

Owning up to a mistake will treat Ford way better in the long run, rather than running like he did. Running makes a person look more guilty then perhaps they are. It is going to be hard for Ford to get away from this mini scandal because he ran.
