Analyze Your Twitter Account with ReTweetLab for More ReTweets | Dan Zarrella

Analyze Your Twitter Account with ReTweetLab for More ReTweets | Dan Zarrella | Public Relations Australia | Scoop.it

One of my favorite topics to research is ReTweeting. I have several very large (millions and hundreds of millions of rows) datasets that I use to do my analysis. The results of my research with these databases are best practices, generated across many industries, timezones, account types and languages. This data is a great starting point for your experimentation.

The best data is always your data.

So I created a free tool, ReTweetLab that allows you to do the same kind of analysis that I conduct on my large datasets on your account (or any other Twitter account you want).

Benjamin Haslem's insight:

Thanks to Jeff Domansky for pointing out this great analytics tool. It provides interesting insights into how, why and when your tweets are retweeted. Best of all: it's free!

I can't say enough about that Zarrella. His knowledge of social media measurement is super and he is a super approachable, sharing guy. By creating this new, free, Twitter analytical tool, the insight you gain could not only increase the number of reTweets, it could make your overall effectiveness much higher.

ReTweet Lab instantly analyzes a segment of your personal or business Twitter stream and delivers up to a dozen benchmarks worth analyzing and taking action to improve what you do.

Highly recommended. 10/10

Benjamin Haslem's insight:

Mr. Foster, a Johnson & Johnson vice president in charge of public relations, became a chief adviser to the chairman, James E. Burke, in formulating the company’s response. The strategy, which was widely viewed as a model of corporate crisis management, was to put consumer safety first, to respond to the media with alacrity and to be entirely honest.

Seems strange no one had thought of this approach before!

Social media makes crisis communications more effective

Social media makes crisis communications more effective | Public Relations Australia | Scoop.it
NEW ORLEANS -- Companies involved in a crisis now have a little more control over the message thanks to social media, according to two public relations experts.
Benjamin Haslem's insight:

I don't think this is so clear cut.

Take this quote: “The secret to crisis management is you have to be ahead of the audience". Agree. But social media also allows key stakeholders to be ahead of the audience. They can tweet pix and eye-witness accounts instantly. Previously the media acted as gate keepers and a good crisis communication plan allowed you to control the message to a certain extent through careful media management. Now, anything you communicate on social media can be responded to by potentially millions of other social media users almost instantly. Things can go wrong very quickly, driving a company deeper into crisis.

Does Katie Couric’s Move to Yahoo Signal the End of Old Media Dominance? | Public Relations Australia | Scoop.it
Benjamin Haslem's insight:

Given the west's ageing population, with its preference for old media (though this is changing) does the departure of Katie Couric from (US) ABC to Yahoo represent a moment in time historians will point to when the balance shifted from old to new media? I guess it will depend how many viewers move with Couric. If many do, other media stars will follow.

I've never liked trying to develop media KPIs. How do you measure a splash in The Australians against a 30-second mention on ABC Local Radio.

I advise clients against asking us to meet KPIs based on number of media hits. If they feel we're not achieving our objectives let us go but don't set rigorous targets as it stymies creativity and can lead to a quantity-over-quality outcome.
