The enduring legacy of Freud - Anna Freud

The enduring legacy of Freud - Anna Freud | Psychotherapy & Counselling | Scoop.it
The legacy of Sigmund Freud - the founder of psychoanalysis is well known. But perhaps less known is the impact his daughter Anna had, and continues to have, on child psychoanalysis.
Kevin Friery's insight:

By the time of her death in 1982, Anna Freud's work had revolutionised how we treat children in many walks of life, such as in hospital - with longer visiting hours when children are having treatment - and in the judicial system, where screens and video cameras are used when children have to give evidence.

I have a strong aversion to the "CBT is the one and only true therapy" cult, but I do hink this article, and the comments afterwards, raise questions that we, as therapists, must be willing to answer.

"Talking Therapies" and "CBT" are two different things.  Poor reporting of an interesting study

Kevin Friery's curator insight, January 2, 11:53 AM

"Talking therapies have "little impact" on the symptoms of people with schizophrenia, a study suggests."  In fact, the only 'taking therapy' they studied was CBT, which is at one extreme end of a range of talking therapies.  It annoys me when people present CBT as 'the' talking therapy - it simply is not.

Luigi Frezza Psicologo's curator insight, January 29, 2013 1:22 AM
