XBPageCurl is a free and open-source implementation of a page curl animation/transition for views in iOS that intends to mimic the behavior of the pages in apps like iBooks and GoogleMaps for iOS. It uses OpenGL ES 2 to draw a deformed mesh of triangles. Conceptually, it projects the vertices of the mesh on a virtual cylinder that touches the view. You can move, rotate and change the radius of the cylinder, with or without animation. This will make the mesh curl around the cylinder. The mesh deformation is performed in a vertex shader which makes it really fast. ✔ Sources: https://github.com/xissburg/XBPageCurl

What we read says a lot about us. That’s why most of us selectively share the stories we think will reflect positively on us with our friends on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and so forth. New startup Hearsay.it challenges us to stop this calculated sharing behavior, and instead start sharing everything we read in order to make the world of news reading all the more enjoyable.

The PDFrizator is a Freeware tool to create PDF presentations, with the possibility to setup the PDF page transition effect, page advance time, and background music. This can be done for already existing PDF's, or from the various file type formats supported, that can all be converted, and visually combined, in the same project. Because of the possibility to convert multiple file formats, the PDFrizator is also a handy tool to rapidly, and visually, create PDF files. http://www.rttsoftware.com/pdfrizator.html

Counterparties is a curated snapshot of the best finance news and commentary. It’s also an experiment: what would a news website look like if it didn’t need to promote its own content, and just linked to the best stories and posts, regardless of source? We believe that the best way to get people to come back is to send them away: click on a headline, go straight to another site, and see for yourself. And if you click instead on the “All Sources” link, you’ll see a list of everybody else who’s linking to that story.

Quality documentary videos can provide students with useful explanations or demonstrations of concepts. Unfortunately, documentary dvds can be expensive acquisitions for some school departments. Here are five places where you can find and watch documentaries for free online. Snag Learning offers access to hundreds of high quality documentary videos. Snag Learning categorizes documentaries by grade level and content area. Additionally, Snag Learning offers a series of guiding questions for each film. You can embed previews of each video into your blog, but you have to watch the full-length versions on Snag Learning. Explore.org produces and hosts high-quality documentary films and photographs. The films and images focus on exploring the world and the work of non-profit organizations around the world. The films and images are organized by destination. There are twelve destinations in all including China, Tibet, the Middle East, and India. Explore.org is funded in part by the Annenburg Foundation...

As you know if you've followed this topic for a while, I'm interested in all the new types of usage created by the iPad. I've had a few posts on iPad being used in airplanes and I felt this was quite experimental. But I've now discovered there was a whole topic on Scoop.it covering this. By Jeffrey Breen. Makes me think this is much bigger than I expected and that Tim Cook's little sentence yesterday at the Apple keynote wasn't that much exagerrated. Right, TechCrunch?
