1:1 iPad Initiative: A Four Year Study & Review - Te@chThought

1:1 iPad Initiative: A Four Year Study & Review - Te@chThought | project-based learning | Scoop.it
The Franklin Academy High School implemented a 1:1 iPad deployment a the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. Over the course of the next two school years, the pilot was expanded to include all grades 9-12 in the high school. This deployment has reached 475 high school students and all teaching staff. Our K-8 program deployed iPads across the grade levels in the form of class sets and mobile carts.

This study targeted our 1:1 deployment at the high school to investigate the impact the device has had on teaching and learning. The survey used to gather the student data was administered in April of 2014. Students included in the survey used the device anywhere from 1 to 4 years. The students use the iPad while at school and home.

Results of the survey hope to shed light on the impact the use of the iPad has had on academic gains as well as the development of the most important non-cognitive skills our program is founded upon.

Retiring an old iPad? Back it up first - USA TODAY

Retiring an old iPad? Back it up first - USA TODAY | project-based learning | Scoop.it
Q: If I retire my old iPad for one of the new models, how do I make sure all of my data is off the tablet and none of it is left behind before donating or selling it?

A: Apple's instructions and interface to reset an iOS device have a refreshing simplicity — the process itself is identical in iOS 7 and iOS 8.

But the documentation and the user experience leave out steps you shouldn't neglect before getting your data off an iPad or other iOS device and restoring it to factory condition for resale or donation.

iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius

iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius | project-based learning | Scoop.it
Though more than two years into my school’s implementation of project based learning, yesterday, I found myself excited all over again. I was helping a second grade teacher enhance her landforms PBL by using Padlet as part of the KWL process and suddenly realized that this approach to student-centered learning has truly become a part of who we are as a school.

My adventures in combining PBLs and iPads began with a gift of two carts. I had just started taking the PBLU online courses when the head of our independent pre-k through eighth grade school challenged each grade-level team to teach one unit using the PBL approach while finding authentic ways to draw in iPads. As the lower school technology integration person, I immediately went on a quest to find a guinea pig willing to plan and co-teach a PBL unit incorporating iPads. This is the story of that first experience. . .

Great Prezi on making great Prezis

Dave Wood's curator insight, April 18, 2014 3:41 PM

Some really useful tips about structuring information and the impactful use of visuals.  I haven't been a huge fan of Prezi because they can be just too "busy" and disorientating when they incorporate too much spin as they move from image to image. These tips give good advice about how to keep it simple for best effect.

I've used Prezi as a way of presenting the notes from a visual group coaching session back to the participants.

New in iOS 8 for Teachers & Students - Learning in Hand | project-based learning | Scoop.it

"Learning in Hand Show #28 is about some of what's new in Apple's iOS 8.  Instead of showing you the major features you might already know about, I demonstrate the lesser known additions that teachers, students, and parents will be interested in."

Use the “Vanishing Spell” in PowerPoint

Use the “Vanishing Spell” in PowerPoint | project-based learning | Scoop.it

...Speaking of the spell, do you remember the scene when Harry wished he knew a good Vanishing Spell to escape his fan Colin’s photograph-clicking spree? Or the time when Bill Weasley used this incantation to make a stack of scrolls disappear while cleaning up after a meeting of the Order of the Phoenix during Harry's first night at number twelve, Grimmauld Place?

Let objects or text disappear slowly behind an object and later make it appear slowly from behind the same object.
