6 Ways to Measure Your Social Media Results | Social Media Examiner | Program planning, objectives, budgets, measuring success5 | Scoop.it
Social media measurement: how to develop a framework for tying your social media performance to your business goals so you can measure your social media results.
Georgia Kirkham's insight:

This article points out a list of things that will help measure the social media results against. Measurment of any IMC program is integral to the success of a IMC program as a whole. To be able to measure the success and failures of the different aspects of an IMC program against the goals we are able to alter things to benefit the outcome. Thus, this is why measurement is so important. Social media is one aspect of an IMC program, thus it needs to be measured. It starts off by highlighting the fact that the strategic goals of the organisation need to be taken into consideration to be able to choose your measures of success for the social media program. One of the most interesting ways to measure the social media program against was the sixth one mentioned; Innovation. This measurement tool utilizes online tools to listen to the customers conversatiopns. What do they want? Such as websites specifically set up for this ir by reading what they want on sites like Twitter etc. By measuring what has been said on these sites against the perfomrance of your social media marketing you can innovate new products or services for what people are saying is missing. What I find interesting about this point is that often people who are happy with products or services dont have a conversation when they are satisfied with something. However, those customers that are dis-satisfied with a product or service are more likely to communicate this on these forums. So this way of measuring the results may give slightly biased results. Thus, this way of measuring should be combined with other ways outlined in this article to get a well rounded measurement.

Advertising is always going to be important when it comes to social media advertising. It branches out to many people and in this day and age many people are vulnerable to social media advertisement. People see it every day as @Curtis Milner has said, most people these days have smartphones where brands can advertise through their apps on smartphones. Therefore as the article has said it is not surprising that companies are increasing their social media advertising and are predicted to further increase these advertising budgets in the future. Following the trend of what aspects people are going to have in the future such as smart phones is a wise decision on the behalf of advertisers. As in the future most people if not all people will own smart phones and this is a new and developing channel for marketing to consumers.

One of the most common mistakes that companies make while designing their Social Media Marketing campaigns is that they fail to choose carefully the online
Georgia Kirkham's insight:

In developing an IMC program it can be very effective to have planned what media channels to utilize in the IMC campaign. This article takes it one step further, if the IMC campaign is to use socila media marketing, what social media sites will you use and why? The article explores many of the options but the one I found most interesting was Facebook. The article points out that Facebook is best for Business to Customer companies. It allows for 'fun' communication. However, for Business to Business companies it is not the best social media site as important information can often get looked over in favour of the more fun stuff on the site. For B2B companies facebook may not be the best in communicating very important information, however I think that it can still be utilized to communicate the culture of a business top another business. This could work in their favour.

Online, Offline Marketing Budgets Worldwide to Rise in 2013 - eMarketer | Program planning, objectives, budgets, measuring success5 | Scoop.it
This year, companies worldwide will grow their digital and traditional marketing budgets, buoyed by a stronger economy and increased consumer confidence.
Georgia Kirkham's insight:

Here is another article highlighting the fact that marketing budgets will be increasing in 2013. It is important for a company to be able  to measure what actual return on investment they are getting for the moeny spent on their marketing investments. The top three digital marketing channels that allow for this, that allow for  the measurment of the return on investment are paid search , email marketin, and search engion optimization. The lowest three are mobile marketing, social media investment and video advertising. Th article points out that marketers will continue to lean on channels of which they can quantify better the rate of return, hwoever they wont ignore the others. What I would find interesting is actually what the ROI for those digital marketing channels are that are harder to quantify their reach to the consumer.
