This NPR article highlighted this video and research that shows that a basic understanding of climate change is missing in our society (which opens up room for naysayers to think that all opinions are equally valid in a scientific discussion).

Amazon Prime Adds Music: The Good And The Bad

Amazon Prime Adds Music: The Good And The Bad | profile | Scoop.it

As predicted, Amazon Prime has joined the ranks of music streaming services today as its new Prime Music service has now gone live. Let’s look at the pros and cons of the Prime Music as it now appears.

Although it’s not publicly stated, it’s reported that Amazon Prime currently has somewhere around 10 million subscribers in the US and around 20 million worldwide. If all were to suddenly engage in Prime Music that would immediately make the service one of the major players in the streaming music world.

The big question is, how many of its subscribers will actually care that they even have the music feature available? Will adding music discourage subscriber churn or even increase its subscriber base? These are just a few of the more interesting questions when it comes to Amazon Prime Music. That said, there’s another new streaming music service now available, and that’s a good thing for the music business....

Technology can also make it more difficult to form an identity. There are more versions of "self" than ever before, which gives kids who may already be struggling to figure out who they are even more to juggle. In an interview with NPR, media theorist and author Douglas Rushkoff explained the feeling in a term he coined: “digiphrenia.”

Why You Shouldn't Trust "Man On The Street" Interviews | Mr. Media Training | profile | Scoop.it

When I worked for CNN, I occasionally interviewed “real people” about a topic in the news. You should be deeply skeptical of those types of interviews.

...That’s an inherent problem with the M.O.S. Time and space restrictions prevent every comment from being aired or printed, so they have to be condensed. Some journalists are better than others about disclosing the overall sentiment of opinions they encountered—and even if they do, that sentiment doesn’t mean much, since M.O.S. interviews only represent a specific place and time (M.O.S. interviews shot on Wall Street would likely yield different results than ones shot at a homeless shelter)...

Value-Based Marketing: Sources of Content Inspiration

Value-Based Marketing: Sources of Content Inspiration | profile | Scoop.it

...But what’s a business owner or a content marketer to do if they’re supposed to come up with great content, and they don’t know where to start?

Everyone knows that content is the key to turning a lead into a buyer.

Each lead reads through your content and takes away something that they find useful. If your content isn’t valuable to them, they’re less likely to pay attention to your brand and what you have to say. No amount of SEO, keyword lacing, or fancy gimmicks can replace high-quality content.

So where can you find some inspiration for your content? Here are some ideas....

Is limiting the use of the Arabic word for God a sign of growing intolerance towards minorities?

Via Seth Dixon

Seth Dixon's curator insight, June 23, 12:31 PM

In Arabic, the word Allah means God.  Christian Arabs refer to God as Allah and Arabic versions of the Bible reference Allah.  As Arabic and Islam have diffused in interwoven patterns, the linguistic root and the theological meanings have became intertwined to some.  BBC World and Al-Jazeera have reported on this issue as the Malaysian government has attempted to ban the use of the word Allah to any non-Muslim religious group.  Language and religion just got very political.

The Things Teachers Save - te@chthought

The Things Teachers Save - te@chthought | profile | Scoop.it

"Schools, along with libraries and museums, are the original curators of culture. That is, they survey various landscapes, and separate the stuff the stuff worth saving from the rest.

This means that teachers are among the earliest curators of knowledge, taking a content area, deciding what’s worthy of further study, and distributing it for examination. This is not a minor responsibility, being asked to weave a simultaneous affection and lasting intellectual lust for what is by definition academic “stuff”—the Declaration of Independence, the Pythagorean Theorem, Homer’s Odyssey, etc."
