Picture This! Teaching Language and Literacy through Literature: a focus on picture books.
Contemporary picture books occupy a central position in the literary and learning experiences in primary school classrooms and are a key resource for teaching students of all ages about ourselves and our world. Quality picture books provide many opportunities for debate, discussion and critical engagement.
This conference will highlight the important place that picture books hold in all areas of the curriculum in supporting students to develop skills in language, literacy and content knowledge.
Presenters include leading academics, authors and experienced classroom teachers sharing their great ideas for teaching with picture books.
Until last Wednesday, US-based learning platforms have led the development of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Together, those platforms, including Coursera, edX, and Udacity, serve an estimated 3 million learners worldwide with courses from a number of elite partner institutions, such as Harvard and MIT.
But now, in the same week in which edX announced a partnership with Google for the development of a new, open-source online learning system, the UK has launched its own – and its first-ever – MOOC platform: FutureLearn.
