Self-Organised Learning Environment (SOLEs) in an English School : an example of transformative pedagogy?

Self-Organised Learning Environment (SOLEs) in an English School : an example of transformative pedagogy? | Professional Learning for 21st Century Learning | Scoop.it
The SOLE concept, although flexible, has the potential to offer a divergent, radical transformative pedagogy. This sits somewhat uncomfortably alongside more convergent approaches which position the learner as subservient to the curriculum, with the task of merely mastering subject matter prescribed by the teacher. However, what is notable from this analysis is that transformative pedagogy seems to be positioned alongside, rather than in conflict with, the dominant educational framework.

The Evolution of Classroom Technology - Edudemic

The Evolution of Classroom Technology - Edudemic | Professional Learning for 21st Century Learning | Scoop.it

We’ve certainly come a long way but some things seem hauntingly similar to many years ago. For example, Thomas Edison said in 1925 that “books will soon be obsolete in schools. Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye.” I’m pretty sure this is exactly what people are saying these days about the iPad.

Interesting to listen to B.F. Skinner talk about the machine for learning. He talks about the student moving at "his" own pace. This is, no surprise, the differentiated or Mass Customized Learning precursor.

Learning about Angles using iPads

Learning about Angles using iPads | Professional Learning for 21st Century Learning | Scoop.it

The App market is quite saturated with Maths apps, particularly ones where pupils are just tapping on the right answer in an activity which is just a digital version of a worksheet with colour and sound. For me, the most useful feature of the iPad is the fact it has a camera which can be accessed from many apps.

This week I have been working with Year 5 pupils who have been learning about different types of angles. Once they understood the different types, they displayed their knowledge by finding angles in the classroom, taking a photo and importing into an apps such as Educreations or Explain Everything where it can be labelled and annotated. Simple idea I know but a good use of the iPad's features. Can anyone spot the mistake?

Excellent Videos OnThe Use of Augmented Reality Apps by Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Excellent Videos OnThe Use of Augmented Reality Apps by Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Professional Learning for 21st Century Learning | Scoop.it

"Below are some good videos I got a few days ago on examples of how some augmented reality apps are being used with kids to help them improve their learning. If the concept of augmented reality if all new to you then here is a brief definition of it: Augmented Reality is exactly what the name implies: an augmented version of realty created by mixing technology with the known world. It might be a distorted, augmented, or less augmented version of the actual world but in its basic form, augmented reality is a simulation or rather a way of superimposing digital contents into the real context."

The Department of Citizenship & Immigration in Australia created an augmented reality app for Harmony day which was AWESOME. I'm all for this near-holographic technology in classrooms! Best thing is - it's technology that gets students out of their chairs and keeps them engaged while they walk around exploring the 360 degree augmented "reality".

NASA also made a cool Mars Rover app.
