I wanted to share this infographic with you this week, which gives a good overview of what gamification is all about.  You may have read my article in March: ‘Gamifying the Classroom: 10 Inspiring Articles’.  Well since then I have come across many more interesting pieces of reading about gamification and games based learning in education.  As gamification is such a hot topic (in colleges and universities as well as for young children), I have formed a list of ten articles, below the infographic

As an increasing number of people are finding out, iPads are great versatile devices that can be utilised for a wide range of educational purposes within learning environments.
One of the best uses I've found is to turn it into a whiteboard canvass to record and create tutorials and step by step guides to share with delegates, learners, colleagues etc.
Air Sketch has released an new version which is great for presentations in boardrooms, learning environment, and/or on the go. Just fire up Air Sketch on the iPad and open the specified URL from any HTML-5 compatible browser on the local network.
Photographs and drawings show up natively in the browser.
NOTE: There's no proprietary client software to install, or services to subscribe to.

Microsoft’s Office Online is a completely free, web-based version of Microsoft Office.

This online office suite is clearly competing with Google Drive, but it’s also a potential replacement for the desktop version of Office.
Unlike all of Microsoft’s other Office products, Office Online at office.com is completely free.
This is Office Online’s biggest advantage over desktop versions of Microsoft Office.

It  can be used on all the PCs you want without paying for additional boxed copies or subscribing to Office 365, Microsoft’s subscription service for Office.
Because it’s a web application that runs in your browser, Office Online will run on everything, from Linux PCs and Chromebooks to iPads and Android tablets.

It doesn't require any special plug-in and works in any popular browser, including Firefox, Chrome, and Safari — not just Internet Explorer.
Should you use Office Online?

Well, that’s up to you. If you’d like a completely free version of Office it’s a compelling option.

On the other hand, you may need the more advanced features in the desktop version of Office.
NOTE: it does provide access to learners who can't afford the desktop version of office.

Andy Kenworthy's curator insight, February 27, 6:21 AM

This could be very handy for editing documents on the move when a desktop or laptop running the full suite isn't available and for collaborating with a team. I will be looking in to this further.

I Will Not Let An Exam Result Decide My Fate ~ Spoken Word ~ YouTube

The Latest Spoken Word Video From Suli Breaks.

Jim Lerman's insight:

Every once in a while we come across a young person who sees with spectacular clarity and expresses with uncommon creativity and finesse that which many young people sense yet struggle to reveal. Suli Breaks falls into the former category and speaks for many in the latter one. Would that many more of our schools, their leaders, and policy makers come to the realization that, in today's world, successfully educating only a fraction of our young is not acceptable. What is required are new ways of conceptualizing what constitutes the ways of learning and the means of their delivery.

11 Tips For Students To Manage Their Digital Footprints - TeachThought

11 Tips For Students To Manage Their Digital Footprints - TeachThought | Professional Development CHS | Scoop.it

by Justin Boyle

"A surprisingly large percentage of people have never even heard the phrase, let alone thought about how to manage theirs responsibly. Among students, the percentage is probably higher. We’ll talk about ways you can help students understand and manage their digital footprints before they get themselves in trouble.

The Definition Of A Digital Footprint

"Simply put, a digital footprint is the record or trail left by the things you do online. Your social media activity, the info on your personal website, your browsing history, your online subscriptions, any photo galleries and videos you’ve uploaded — essentially, anything on the Internet with your name on it. Digital natives like today’s students rarely think twice about putting their names on things online, so their footprints can be pretty wide.

"Luckily for us all, most of the major sources of personal information can be tweaked so we share only certain things with the general public. There are even some third-party bonus tools available to manage the parts of our digital footprints we might not know were there."
