We expect our children to develop these skills. We integrate these skills in our every day lessons so that our students can grow and expand their knowledge. We create spaces so that our students can create and collaborate, whether it is a physical space or a virtual space. We expect our students to be good digital citizens, using devices, programs, and tools responsibly. We want our students to ask questions and explore for answers. We expect our students to learn, grow, and then reflect on that learning.

Teacher librarians are too important to cut - Standard-Examiner

There have been good things happening in the Ogden School District. There is passion to see that students’ test scores improve and students graduate with the skills they will need for the work they do and the lives they will lead.

The primary purpose of the library media program is to empower students to be critical thinkers, make informed choices and be problem solvers. Dr. William A Sederburg, recently retired Utah Commissioner of Higher Education, said “Preserving and expanding school libraries are essential to our success in this information-intensive age. The school library isn’t your mother’s library anymore.”

This is definitely remaining current. Very inspiring!

Joyce Valenza's curator insight, June 22, 2014 9:11 AM

"Case in point: Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Virginia. When librarian Joan Ackroyd arrived there four years ago, she found an environment very different from the “engaging, creative, fun” elementary and middle school libraries to which she was accustomed. “Its library was none of those things,” she recalls. “It was a traditional, quiet research space.”
