What is social media curation? Social media curation is: Gathering and repurposing content from sources outside of your business to improve and diversify your social media marketing.

Nicole Paquet's curator insight, February 20, 2014 11:18 AM

Personally, I would highly recommend this article for anyone interested in social media. I found it to be extremely helpful with its suggested tips on how to properly curate articles and how to go about doing so in an ethical manner. I think that it is important for businesses to be looking into what else is going on in their industry aside from themselves and to be open to discuss those changes with their consumers. By posting other articles from creditable sources, companies have the brilliant opportunity to look more like experts in the field themselves even for just keeping up with current ideas and innovations. Aside from this, it also lets businesses provide their followers with their own take on what is going on in the world. For their customers, curating makes it much more exciting to follow businesses. When companies are not so focused on using social media to push products, they can instead use these forums to be able to express themselves as a “real people” with actual personalities. People who are interested in their business have a great chance of also being very intrigued by other topics or subject matter that is relatable or are in some ways similar. Something to take away from this is the idea that social media should not be used to push products and services on people but rather another median to be able to connect and interact with consumers. By doing so, businesses are able to gain a better insight on what it is their customers are actually looking for and what are some things that they may need to change. It may be time-consuming, but in the end I truly believe that social media is an extremely powerful tool to be used in order to enhance a business in a relatively low cost manner.

What a great point. Let's have something interesting and valuable to share -- even if it's just an entertaining meme -- rather than post shit for the sake of posting it.

A helpful reminder from a professor at Duke's Fuqua School of Business in which she talks about how to use social media etiquette as well as one-on-one time to cultivate lasting business relationships. Professional relationships are not uni-focused, they are multi-dimensional, and it's easy to forget that in pursuit of a deal.

Strategic Leadership in the Business School; Keeping One Step Ahead

Strategic Leadership in the Business School; Keeping One Step Ahead | Professional Development and Engagement | Scoop.it

Business schools have come under fire in recent years with criticisms centring on their academic rigour and the relevance of business education to the 'real' world of management. Alongside this ongoing debate, increasing international competition and media rankings have led to a fierce struggle between business schools for positioning and differentiation. These are among the challenges that are faced by the Dean of the modern-day business school. In this book, Fernando Fragueiro and Howard Thomas show how Deans of business schools can meet such challenges in terms of strategic direction setting and the execution of their leadership role. Drawing on their invaluable experience as Deans of highly successful business schools, they present a series of case studies to show how leaders of five leading business schools (IMD, LBS, INSEAD, IAE and Warwick) have built effective strategies in the context of internal and external political pressures.

Table of Contents

1. Introduction: global financial crisis: future challenges for strategic leadership, Deans and business schools

2. The business school landscape: trends and dilemmas

3. Business schools as professional organisations (professional service firms)

4. The leadership process in business schools

5. Strategic leadership in practice: leading the strategic process in three top business schools

6. Strategic leadership in practice: the role of the Dean

7. Learning from the trenches: personal reflections on Deanship

It's no secret that images work. Twitter is taking that into consideration with the supposed next iteration of its design - which frankly has a lot of the elements of the Facebook profile, including the large banner.

I've always said that, eventually, all of the social networks will learn from the others what works and what doesn't, adapt and reuse all of the features, and just form one giant social empire. Maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't, but this is certainly another step in that direction. :)

Also, long live images! #leancontent
