We're all familiar with satellite imagery, but what we might not know is that much of it is out of date. That's because satellites are big and expensive, so there aren't that many of them up in space. As he explains in this fascinating talk, Dan Berkenstock and his team came up with a different solution, designing a cheap, lightweight satellite with a radically new approach to photographing what's going on on Earth.
There's nothing inherently off-putting about sustainability at all. I challenge you to find someone who is "in favor" of purposely ruining the future. The problem is in helping people become aware of their impacts and connecting their perfectly adequate values to the effects their activities have.

Why do so many videos made by companies fall flat? In many cases, it's because they lack the essential component of storytelling - conflict.
Always remember the storytelling elements, no matter who you are working with.
This article made so much sense to me that I had to sit down and listen to the podcast right away. Here's some comments that stood out for me:
Brands are struggling. What's missing is conflict.
Need to inject conflict without damaging the brand.
Too many provide a false picture – everything is wonderful.
Have to (provide and) overcome the conflict or the listener won’t like it.
Conflict – get as close as possible to death.
Conflict – best kind of universal truth.
How to find your org/brands conflict? Need to take a softer look at the notion of conflict (the term conflict brings up certain imagery, feelings). Conflict is simply something to overcome. Ask yourself - do we want to be a company who wants to overcome things?
There's also a great made-up example (Donut Corp) provided of how an organization could find it's conflict.
Brilliant article really nails it!

The ‘should designers be able to code’ debate has raged for some time, but I’m interested in another debate: should designers be able to research?
Are you a designer who can do research? Good research and the insights you uncover inspire fresh ways of thinking and get your creative juices flowing. Good research brings clarity to a woolly brief. Audience insight helps sharpen your focus on what’s really important. Experimentation through research and design brings a sense of playfulness and curiosity to your work. Good research helps you do good design.

A really quick tool for the Mac, but can do the same with Quicktime. Not sure if my firewall is preventing this from running. Recorded 5 seconds of footage from 1/4 of my screen on my MacBook Pro and has been cycling for about 5 minutes. Personally I pay the money and use ScreenFlow, which also allows webcam and microphone input together with screen casting and computer sound. Once finished recording the Screenflow editor pops up to allow you to adjust any of the shot.

While the past favored those who could retain and process information efficiently, the future belongs to those who can imagine a better world and work with others to make it happen.
Imagining a desired and feasible future is at the heart of a participative change process. Technology can support stakeholder involvement, but will never be able to replace it.
While I understand some people wish everything was a computer. The vast majority of humans need a physical and emotional connection...something "artificial intelligence" cannot give you.
I believe that we have to recenter the human machine relationship, and this must be done from school, letting young kids learn that they control the machine, and not the other way round.
Computational thinking and critical thinking are for humans.
