40 Maps That Explain The Internet

40 Maps That Explain The Internet | prof development for innovation and classroom technology growth | Scoop.it

The internet increasingly pervades our lives, delivering information to us no matter where we are. It takes a complex system of cables, servers, towers, and other infrastructure, developed over decades, to allow us to stay in touch with our friends and family so effortlessly. Here are 40 maps that will help you better understand the internet — where it came from, how it works, and how it's used by people around the world.

Here's why the Internet works, "... because open standards allow every network to connect to every other network.  (So far...)   This is what makes it possible for anyone to create content, offer services, and sell products without requiring permission from a central authority.

It levels the playing field for everyone and it’s the reason why we have a rich diversity of applications and services that many of us enjoy today.

Grading As an Opportunity to Encourage Students | prof development for innovation and classroom technology growth | Scoop.it
There's no such thing as a completely objective grade. Compiling, weighting and averaging numbers often leaves a good teacher with a grade that doesn't reflect what he understands about the child in question--what that child actually knows and can do.

Make Presentations Different

Make Presentations Different | prof development for innovation and classroom technology growth | Scoop.it

With SlideIdea, presentations are no longer a one-man show. SlideIdea gives presenters the tools to engage their audience through their audience’s smart phones, laptops, and tablets. Each SlideIdea presentation is provided a unique URL (i.e, www.sld.im/12345 ). Regardless of the location, an audience can simply input the URL into their internet browser and then immediately follow along with slides, participate in polls, ask questions, or even network.

Slideideia permite ainda importar (e melhorar) apresentações Powerpoint e ficheiros Pdf.

Não chega? Muito bem: com Slideideia pode ainda gravar as suas falas durante a apresentação. Excelente!

I am definitely going to have a play with this one.

Dictation - Online Speech Recognition

Dictation - Online Speech Recognition | prof development for innovation and classroom technology growth | Scoop.it
Dictation is a free online speech recognition software powered by Google Chrome. You can use Dictation to write emails and documents in the browser with your voice

"Speech Recognition in the Browser

With Dictation, you can use the magic of speech recognition to write emails, narrate essays and long documents in the browser without touching the keyboard.

To get started, just connect the microphone to your computer and click the Start Dictation button.

Dictation uses your browser's local Storage to save all the transcribed text automatically as you speak. That means you can close the browser and it will resume from where you left off.

The app internally uses the built-in speech recognition engine of Google Chrome to transform your voice into digital text.

Speak in your Native Language

You don't have to speak in English as Chrome's engine can recognize quite a few languages including Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Malay, Indonesian and more. Dictation will automatically determine your browser's default launguage and uses it for subsequent transcriptions.

Hindi and other Indian languages aren't supported at this time.

Written by Amit Agarwal for Digital Inspiration."
