The most important reason to schedule buffers is to just catch your breath. There is no faster way to feel as though your day is not your own, and that you are no longer in control, than scheduling meetings back to back from the minute you arrive at the office until the moment you leave. I’ve felt the effects of this and seen it with colleagues. Not only is it not fun to feel this way, it’s not sustainable.

Now here is a salutary reminder that productivity does not just sit on the horizontal axis of execution and performance, but also on the vertical axis of conception and perspective.  In fact productivity lies at the nexus between these two.  It is a reaffirmation of Peter Drucker's aphorism - "Efficiency is doing things right, effectivemness is doing the right things".

At the focal point between efficient and effective is - 'efficacious'  True productivity!

This article is the other side of the coin, in the efficient versus effective debate.  It is a good reminder that whilst good action needs to be linked to a clear vision, it is nevertheless possible to so overthink, overplan, and overcomplicate the perspective process, that we never begin.  The wisdom of working iteratively lies partly in the fact that at least we start!
