The message to aspiring video makers on YouTube is clear, and seductive: Attract an audience, build your brand. But success, let alone stardom and wealth, remains elusive.

Content creators say YouTube also takes 45% of the ad revenue.
How many creators bought all that gear, post 20+ videos a week and don't have a million subscribers? Most.
Also a lot of creators who are full time hire out some things like editing or graphics, so there are some other expenses to consider.There's more involved as they get paid for views as well as likes and comments. And then there's endorsement deals. Most of the most popular YouTubers live very well.Youtube gives creators 55% of the ad revenue it makes off displaying ads on your videos. Without Google's ad platform there would be no money to make.
