I would say it doesn't have to take a year to build a quality content platform for SM before launch. With good planning and a calendar it could be done it 6 months.

 

I agree with his point about "earning the right to pitch your product" in groups and forums.

I love stories like this - of how entrepreneurs and startups innovate to create awareness about their products and services. Even though this is a business-to-consumer story, I think it can apply to business to business marketers who are trying to create brand awareness on a small (or non-existent) budget.

It reminds me of one time when I was working late in the software industry, getting ready for a sales trip. A gentleman knocked on our locked office door. When I answered it, he said he was dropping off samples of ice cream to get known in the area. I don't remember if it was Ben or Jerry, but, yes! He dropped off Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

So, B2B marketers, what stunt can you pull off to get known? Is it having 50 of your colleagues and friends walk around a trade show with your logo on their bags? Is it renting a food truck or beverage cart and showing up near a venue where your prospective buyers are meeting?

cmos said they plan to increase marketing budgets by an average of 9% this year, according to duke university's cmo survey.

The survey by Duke University, the AMA and McKinsey & Co. says that digital marketing budgets will increase 14.7% while traditional marketing will decrease 1.1%. The budgets for marketing analytics will almost double in the next three years, from 6.4% of total marketing budget to 11.7%. But the survey also found that B2B companies don't use the marketing analytics data as well as business to consumer or B2C companies.
