Nice article on how GPUs are being used now for so many applications and parallel processing tasks.

BTW, 4D Pipeline is again helping NVIDIA with the NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference in March 2014 in San Jose, CA, USA. This is a tremendous opportunity to show what you have been doing to the world. Google Makes 3 Big Bets on NVIDIA

Google Makes 3 Big Bets on NVIDIA | Product Design | Scoop.it

Google has placed bets on Nvidia to fight its main rivals—Apple, Microsoft and Facebook by theStreet.com

Conclusion No. 1: I draw the conclusion that Google is working very closely with Nvidia for a new set of mobile computers—smartphones and tablets—with dramatically higher computer power, to be announced starting in late 2014. These smartphones and tablets would be more powerful than almost all of today's PCs.

Conclusion No. 2: It was clear that the Nvidia Shield is now Google's big play for the gaming market—at least for this year. It is a big part of Google's plan to make Microsoft's Xbox ... simply irrelevant.

Conclusion No. 3: Google's innovative use of GPUs in cloud photo processing could lead to higher demand for Nvidia's GPU cloud servers.

Bold article, well thought out strategical analysis by Anton Wahlman. I love reading such a fresh viewpoint.

I would even add further to the authors big conclusions.

I would add that Google Glass and it's vision (hehe - pun) of AR and visual search for the masses requires:

4) Great computer vision - everything should be searchable, and everything happens to be in 3D.  - Cloud computing with Nvidia GPUs is not an option it's a must. E.g. See a car you like, look at it, see everything about it.  Also applicable for Google Goggles.

5) Great visualization/rendering - the Augmented part of AR requires state of the art 3D visualization. This means overlaying 3D information on the "reality". Tegra's are going to again be musts but again, we are going to rely on the heavy lifting being done in the cloud with GPUs.

Disclosure - NVIDIA is a customer of 4D Pipeline's.
