What is Apple Clips? Plus we teach you how to use it

What is Apple Clips? Plus we teach you how to use it | Prodas21Ontdeklab | Scoop.it
Update: Apple has updated its Clips app, bringing along a suite of new digital assets from the company itself to make your videos and photos a little more lively. New overlays, backgrounds and animated text are just a few of the new features available in the update.

Additionally, entertainment giant Disney has chipped in some content and the implementation seems fun. You'll basically be able to overlay your favorite Disney characters on your photos and even better, you can insert an animated character into your videos.

Makerspaces Around the World - Worlds of Learning @LFlemingEDU

Makerspaces Around the World - Worlds of Learning @LFlemingEDU | Prodas21Ontdeklab | Scoop.it

"One of the most rewarding parts about writing my new book, The Kickstart Guide to Making Great Makerspaces (Fall 2017), was the opportunity to highlight and feature GREAT makerspaces all around the world. I recently interviewed some of the people behind these spaces to provide us with the opportunity to take a deeper dive into their amazing work. I would like to thank Dodji Hanou of the DefkoAkNiep makerspace in Senegal, Gabriela Augustini of the Olabi Makerspace in Brazil, Miracule Gover of the Tuce Makerspace in Ghana, and Marco Mout of the Walhallab in the Netherlands for taking the time to answer my questions. I am thrilled to say that I now consider all of these people valued friends and colleagues that I learn from on a daily basis and I cannot thank them enough for their contributions. It is my hope that their insight will allow us all to see makerspaces from other perspectives and to learn and grow from what is being done in other parts of the world. Photo Mapo, as we have indicated in an earlier post, is on sale now for free and only for a limited period of time. This deal is valid at least in the Canadian and American iTunes App Stores. Hopefully it will be still free by the time you are reading this post.

Oskar Almazan's curator insight, April 12, 6:22 PM
Augmented reality–a technology that uses a trigger image to superimpose digital content over a user’s view of the real world–is growing in popularity and accessibility, and it holds a wealth of potential for education. Often described as “QR codes on steroids,” the technology offers new and exciting ways for students to interact with lessons, said Jeff Peterson, an instructional technologist in the Lamar Consolidated ISD in Texas. Peterson presented a TCEA 2017 session on augmented reality’s application in classrooms.

World History 3D Printer Museum Project | Blog | Project Based Learning | BIE

World History 3D Printer Museum Project | Blog | Project Based Learning | BIE | Prodas21Ontdeklab | Scoop.it
Reading about archaeology and museums and ancient civilizations can be a lot like reading about anything else at school—some kids might find it moderately interesting, while others probably wouldn’t. But what if students could play the role of archaeologists and museum curators, researching and creating their own museum exhibits using the very latest in super-cool modern technology?

My 8th grade World History survey course covers the Paleolithic Era to 1500 CE, and in the first few weeks of school, students are introduced as much to the study of history as to the content. In a virtual meeting with an archaeologist, my co-teacher and I got the idea for a Project Based Learning experience, culminating with a museum exhibit, complete with 3D-printed artifacts and augmented reality software, to showcase their learning to their parents. Below is the outline of the project.

How Libraries Can Turn Stories Into Maker Projects - MindShift

How Libraries Can Turn Stories Into Maker Projects - MindShift | Prodas21Ontdeklab | Scoop.it
In recent years, libraries have broadened their scope of offerings to the local community to involve more making activities like 3-D printing and sewing. Some libraries even have a facilitator for maker projects.

At Millvale Community Library in Pennsylvania, maker program coordinator Nora Peters saw an opportunity to better connect the activities of the maker space with the library’s mission to promote literacy. So, she set out to build a bridge between making and reading by creating maker activities for children’s books.

What do maker projects look like in each subject area?

What do maker projects look like in each subject area? | Prodas21Ontdeklab | Scoop.it
Recently a friend of mine said, “When I think of makerspaces, I don’t think of history classes. I picture areas where kids are playing with toys and stuff.”

This comment resonated with my own experience. The first time I heard about makerspaces, I thought, “That’s awesome and I’d love to have something like that, but I teach social studies.” I had a mental block that kept me from seeing the bigger picture around makerspaces.

So, I started with the most natural tie-in. We did an economics unit where students used design thinking to build a product. After redesigning the space, I realized something:

A makerspace isn’t just about engineering.

The User's Manual To Design Thinking Your Teaching (Infographic)

The User's Manual To Design Thinking Your Teaching (Infographic) | Prodas21Ontdeklab | Scoop.it
What I love about Design Thinking is that it's flexible. There are teaching approaches out there that tell us what to do, but it makes more sense for every teacher to teach differently every year, because we each get different students.
Think about it. We don't treat all our friends and family the same. Our interactions with them are largely based on our experience of who they are and what makes them tick. Teaching is the same way. One size fits all approaches do not work.

The challenge is that, in the grand scheme of things, we only know our students for a short time. However, personalization of education is not a fad; it's a thing. So. let's use the Design Thinking Cycle (Empathy, Definition, Ideation, Prototyping, Testing) to improve Teaching, shall we?
