Process Work holds that psychosis, as well as other “extreme states,” falls along a continuum of experiences with more and less “meta-communication” present as well as more and less consensually held realities and perceptions. This view/practice, in my opinion, has great potential to not only be helpful for those who struggle from extreme states but importantly, help reduce the marginalization and stigma that frequently accompanies non-consensually held realities and perceptions. Furthermore, this framework can help us all begin to hear and integrate some of the wisdom embedded in extreme states that may be missing from relatively mainstream perception and experience.
