Interesting indeed in teaching 'impression management' or 'selective self-presentation'. But where would be the personal benefit in the off line world if one merely uses an obscure alias?

Exploration of ePortfolios for Adding Value and Deepening Student Learning in Contemporary Higher Education

While much has been written about the use of learning technologies generally and about ePortfolios in particular, there has been a lack of robust evidence about their added value for enhancing student learning opportunities. A case study of the integration of ePortfolios into a professional development master’s program in a Higher Education Institution in Ireland is presented, and added value in terms of the creative learning process is explored.

Christin Lopez's curator insight, October 23, 2014 7:15 AM

This site provides a way to have an online textbook that you can share with students. Even in the free edition, there are upgrade charges for features and more storage, you can create and join classes.

It looks like this has the potential to be a great resource, but I found trouble right away while searching for a couple topics that I currently teach. There are not textbooks that have tags that help me find what I was looking for. This made me question if the information is on the site and not tagged, or is it too new that others have not uploaded information. I thought that the software creators would have obtained copyright privileges for a number of topics to start the site out. They would have been seed ideas to get the ball rolling. For you to upload PDFs, you need to have the copyright permissions. So while the potential is there for individualizing, it is not a quick jump right into it.

The iPad is so much more than a consumption device. Here are some great tips for using it more collaboratively.

Kim Sheehy's curator insight, May 28, 2013 5:54 AM

Jennie Magiera is a digital learning coordinator of 25 public schools in Chicago. She identifies Schoololgy as being her favourite iPad App for fostering collaboration. It is free and includes important discussion features including interactions displayed on a timeline.

This can be useful for teachers to monitor student questions and answers to problem based learning in the classroom. Students are able to see and respond to each other’s posts while providing the teacher with good knowledge of student learning and understanding of the content. It also provides opportunities for all students to have input.

This resource could be used with students to support the Australian Curriculum: Technologies processes and production skills sub-strand of Creating and interacting online - 4.7 Manage the creation, sharing and exchange of information with known audiences and apply agreed social protocols to protect people when communicating online.
