Good use of pie charts

This Wall Street Journal graphic shows who's selling (or sold) a percentage of their Facebook stocks and who's holding steady.
This graphic is the perfect example of why I'm a proponent of the pie chart.

Adrien Friggeri has a lovely visualization of US Senators movement between clusters:
You have to click the image and play with it to appreciate it. The methodology isn’t yet published – but I can see how this could be very illuminating.

What Are the Odds That Stats Would Be This Popular?

If you can answer this question, you are on your way to making $180,000 a year: build a sequence of nearest neighbor classifiers around its tuning parameter K, choosing K using prediction accuracy estimated through tenfold cross validation.

What is Mahalanobis distance?

In statistics, we sometimes measure "nearness" or "farness" in terms of the scale of the data. Often "scale" means "standard deviation." For univariate data, we say that an observation that is one standard deviation from the mean is closer to the mean than an observation that is three standard deviations away. You can generalize these ideas to the multivariate normal distribution.

From 2004 to 2009, the total number of bicycle commuters nearly doubled while total federal spending on bicycle infrastructure nearly tripled.
