Social networking is the #1 activity online. Even though Google gets the most visitors, Facebook is where most of us are spending our time. And it’s not just about Facebook anymore. For my marketing idea, I created something called the “Hashtag Game.”

 

Like Naomi Dunford said: “It’s the shit that we do to get people to buy our shit.” There are many things we can do to attract potential readers and customers such as: producing powerful content; word of mouth; Facebook marketing; free eBooks to lure people in; and guest posting.

 

There are also the little, effortless things that we forget to do that can add up overtime: adding hashtags at the end of our tweets.

 

For example: If I were tweeting “Engagement From Scratch” . . . and let’s just say I don’t have 50,000 followers but I want to spread the word about it.

Getting images for free is great, and there is a lot of choice out there, but sourcing images from a free site can have its drawbacks, the license that the images are provided with is different on every site you use. Some sites prohibit commercial use of the image, most require an attribution, some require you register or signup to a newsletter to access the images, some ask that you seek permission first etc.

 

A word of warning: Expecting that nobody will notice if you make use of an image that you just take without permission is foolish, tools like TinEye make it free and easy to find who has used an image without permission, and stock agencies like getty and others use paid services like picscout.com track image misuse, bill the offender, taking legal action if images are not removed. If you are using images without the correct license, someone will catch up with you sooner or later. here's a typical forum quote "I currently have a demand from getty images for $1200 over an image I hot-linked to in a blog entry 2 years ago."

Everyone says play bigger, grow; keep expanding.

But is all growth and development good, or even necessary?

 

I’ve learned that there’s no guarantee that growth will make a difference in your business. You can have more people on your list, and no one actually buying. You can have more traffic, and only crickets in your comments section.

 

There’s a big difference between growth that’s meaningful and growth that’s hollow. The difference is depth.

 

A lot of people say you need 1,000 true fans. I think that’s a good, tangible goal to aim for.

 

For our purposes, “True Fans” are defined as: People that buy everything you create. When you announce the launch of a product, creation, or offer, they are actively waiting for you to release it. They refresh the “coming soon” page. They comment on every post. They tell everyone they can about what you do.


1,000 is good because it’s a number that we can wrap our minds around. It seems like a stretch, but it also seems doable. You can convert one true fan a day if you’re really on your game.

Hi Chuck, It's a question I am often asked me and..., I do not have a definitive answer on this. I, for one, a Baby-Bommer and I think it is not related to generation, but to humanity in general. Everyone would like always appear in the best light possible, which does not always favor the authenticity. I also think that the social media demonstrate even better the malaise of our society and the lack of commitment of most people on this earth!

Because of realistic parents, my siblings and I were never directed to operate to Please Others, rather be sure we were satisfied with our behavior.
Because, if I am on the right track, it is easier to share Abundance with others.
Self-Interest is different than Selfishness.
I bring up this point to reflect on the fact many have Stories of Benefit to share and if they focused on their personal "greatness" it would be easier to get the Job done.

Yes Chuck, I see and I know that each generation change. Sometimes in a good sense and sometimes on a worse way... that's life! Indeed, when people make personal work, it is easier to do something constructive with them, but I also know that for many people, it's only bla bla and serves no purpose. I saw an article like this from Christopher Penn over the summer, he uses his iPad and flipboard to do this. I'm using buffer and find one of my best Twitter tools - if I can discipline my self to use it. The Chrome plugin helps a lot. But one of the things I've noticed is that I don't systemmatically read blogs as much as I did a few years back. Now, I look for particular Twitter lists, honed keywords, and specific sources. I need to get my discipline back around this ...

The Community News section is a way of sharing knowledge, basically you have a section dedicated to receive links submissions from the community and publish it on your own blog. It’s so close to the idea of social bookmarking sites, but the technique and tools are different.
