Short Form Content: The Latest Social Media Trend #leancontent

Short Form Content: The Latest Social Media Trend #leancontent | Princess of Curation | Scoop.it

Would you like to speed up your content creation process, while concurrently making it more relevant to your audience?

While Google still loves long-form magazine style content, it is certainly better to create short form content than nothing at all.

However, instead of considering short-form content a compromise, recognize it for what it is. This is a win-win for your business and its on-the-go audience that often only has time for a snack.

It’s no coincidence that the fastest growing social media channels are those that deliver the bite-sized content that active people crave. For businesses, we’re talking about Instagram, Pinterest, and Vine.

Why You Must Curate Content in 2015 | SEJ

Why You Must Curate Content in 2015 | SEJ | Princess of Curation | Scoop.it
The key to success in a myriad of web content that may drown us in 2015 is to curate content. The whys and hows are explained in-depth inside this article.

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
Lori Wilk's insight:

This article proves that #Content #curation , when done properly and purposefully, allows you to share relevant content in your industry without having to create it yourself. When you find great content and share it with others you provide value to those you have shared information with. Content Curation ultimately  can save you and your team time and money. If you have to constantly create everything you share online from scratch it is very expensive and takes even more time than sharing something that has already been completed. Other #business #leaders will appreciate your giving them insights and information and they often appreciate that you bring them content that helps them stay on top of #industry #change #news #technology and #innovation. Tip use these  three words  to set your strategy for the balance between content creation and content curation. 1. Create. 2. Curate and 3. Advocate. Decide how much content to CREATE. What percentage of content to CURATE. and 3. How to get others to ADVOCATE for you. Use online platforms to get others to share all of your content whether created or curated. OPEC=Other people's energy and contacts to spread your content. When they spread your content it gets "'multiplied"How far is your reach? How many people can you influence. Chances are the greatest that this number will be much bigger using lots of content curation of great content.

Una excelente presentación sobre Curación de Contenidos

ignis ideas+innovación transmedia's curator insight, August 7, 9:35 AM

These are the slides of a talk I gave to the Social Media for Non-Profits conference on June 11 in Mountain View.

Like many large and small businesses, non-profits are often looking at social media in general and content in particular as a huge opportunity to embrace but also one that is hard to master. Limited resources, lack of inspiration, lack of credibility are often mentioned as blocking factors so that overall a lot of people are left with fear of missing out.

My talk was thus on how to relieve that stress by using content curation - which in itself is not easy but can become much easier with the appropriate tools or combination of tools.

The presentation covers the key benefits of a good content strategy, how content curation can help as well as best practices, tools and a few case studies as well.

To build on that observation, Altimeter's Rebecca Lieb and Jessica Groopman provide an interesting framework for organizations to think about their content culture.

As we've commented before, one of the main challenges that companies face is to involve more people in what they call the creativity phase: busy professionals don't have time to blog let alone create stunning visual content. Yet, they probably sit on a content gold mine that they underestimate and that is lost to the organization. Collaborative content curation provides interesting and practical answers to facilitate that second phase and spread a culture of content: it not only makes it easy for employees to contribute the interesting articles they read to the corporate content effort but it also makes it rewarding them by helping them show thought leadership in the process.

Via Marc Rougier
Lori Wilk's insight:

Becoming a thought leader is not something that just happens. It takes work and strategic planning to achieve. The perfect pathway is not spelled out for anyone to follow. Content curation should definitely be part of one's strategy to become a thought leader in their industry.

Marc Rougier's curator insight, September 15, 2014 12:30 PM

"Thought Leadership doesn't directly aim to sell, but educate, advise and in some case entertain", says Molli Bucini. However, for professionals and businesses, this is a marketing action.

There is no KPI yet directly measuring influence, reputation or Thought Leadership - no magic button on Google Analytics either. However, the basic Content Marketing analytics must be tracked:

  • repeat visitors
  • bounce rate
  • mention and share
  • and eventually in-site conversion.

All of them, and more, discussed in this post.

Reminds me of the situation of Social Media marketing some years ago: professionals and businesses realized they needed to be active on SM, before they could actually measure their impact (well... most professionals and businesses - this was not obvious for all, actually). Detailed ROI analysis matures as we progress, it's a step by step process. But we should not wait for a mathematical proof before we demonstrate our Thought Leadership through a relevant Content Marketing strategy.

On Wednesday, I hosted a Social Media Week to discuss the #leancontent framework and some tips on how to use curation to jumpstart a business / content marketing strategy.

For the first half of the talk, we went through the ideas behind information overload, lean content (leverage, experiment, automate, measure) and how finding ways to make an impact without spending loads of time and money can help further a brand and/or business.

Secondly, we went through the seven parts of a lean content curation strategy:

1. Content discovery: finding the right content to share with your audience.

2. Website hosting and integration: finding a place for your content to live online and be indexed in search.

3. Scheduling: spending a small amount of time setting up the rest of your day, then adopting the "set it and forget it" mentality.

4. Analytics: understanding your unique audience.

5. Team curation: involving the rest of your company in content creation and offloading resposibilities.

6. Distribution: making sure all of your audiences (on different platforms) see your content. Automate this process with tools like Scoop.it

7. Increased visibility: if you aren't posting, someone else will be.

Content Strategy of disruptors: how Open Garden builds an engaged community around mesh networking

Content Strategy of disruptors: how Open Garden builds an engaged community around mesh networking | Princess of Curation | Scoop.it
Changing the world not only takes a great idea but also takes building momentum around it. But how can you do this when you’re also running a startup, coding a product and making deals with your first strategic partners?

Open Garden Co-founder & CEO Micha Benoliel explains in this video how using Scoop.it allows him and his team to build this kind of momentum through publishing by curation and thereby engaging their community around a key tenet of its mission mesh networking - the awesome concept that we can all share wireless bandwidth (and that Open Garden makes a reality through its Apps and technology).
