What is flipped learning?

What is flipped learning? | Click to Learn | Scoop.it

To counter common misconceptions and bring clarity to discussions about “Flipped Learning,” the governing board and key leaders of the Flipped Learning Network (FLN) announced a formal definition of the term. They also released the Four Pillars of F-L-I-P™ and a checklist of eleven indicators that educators must incorporate into their practice.

I flip. Do you flip?

Put simply, flipped learning is using out-of-class preparation for knowledge building and face-to-face time for interactive group activities to build understanding.

I wrote a little article about this on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20140707043358-61135-flipped-learning-defined?trk=object-title

In praise of PowerPoint

In praise of PowerPoint | Click to Learn | Scoop.it

Philip Moriarty stands up for the much-maligned presentation tool.

"Both students and academics regularly bemoan “death by PowerPoint”, as a glance at Times Higher Education’s archives will show. But PowerPoint is a presentational tool. Nothing more, nothing less. If students are finding it difficult to engage with the material that we’re discussing and explaining, then it’s rather a cop-out to blame that on the technology."

The first and most important of these is the up-skilling that is needed among learning professionals so that they stop being order takers and become trusted professionals who really know how to design.
David Swaddle's insight:

What really resonates @cliveshepherd is that training people need to become trusted business partners, not just order takers.

Too much bad training is created because people are 'just following orders' and not willing to gently challenge how the training will perform and whether it fits with the organisations strategy.

The Importance of Happiness at Work

The Importance of Happiness at Work | Click to Learn | Scoop.it
Here's why you should make online learning fun for content creators, as well as learners!
David Swaddle's insight:

What if one simple approach could make people 12% more productive? What if research backed this up? What if highly successful companies were already doing this?

Happiness in a task boosts productivity an average of 12%, or so suggests research soon to be published in the Journal of Labor Economics. Is seems those smiles could be worth a lot.

This productivity boost means that it's worth considering how we make people happy while they're learning. There's a good chance that this productivity boost could cross-over into learning and wouldn't that be a result - better performance and happier learners!

Don't forget yourself too. How can you make your job designing, creating and delivering learning more enjoyable. Staying too serious might not just crush your creativity, but it may suppress your output too. Smile!

David Swaddle's insight:

Move over Millenials...your little sisters and brothers are on their way..and their on a mission.

Do you wonder what the next generation of people entering the workforce look like? What makes them tick? What motivates them??

JWT's Generation Z report sketches out today's teenagers. Gen Z'ers want to create, connect and change. I find it really positive how Gen Z is being labelled for their self-starting, hard-working ethic. This is no bunch of slackers and the self-entitle Millenials had better watch out.

The report suggests that Z'ers just as connected and brand aware as their elder siblings, but they're harder working and more conscious of their actions. Oh, and they're back on Facebook too.

This is really interesting reading if you're involved in education or marketing. Are we headed for a culture shift back to a more traditional work attitude?
