WORDS- Group work

WORDS- Group work | Presentations - Lets get creative! | Scoop.it
Suzanne Izzard's insight:

Words account for just 7% of how people perceive us when we communicate, so I hear you say “they don't even listen to what I am saying"! Sadly this is true so we have to make sure what we say is spot on, clear, meaningful, jargon free, appropriate, simplistic and impacting. However when we get our words and language right and linked to good story telling, supported with amazing vocals and effective and memorable visuals the overall presentation will leave your audience with a memorable message.

Reframing stress: Stage fright can be your friend

Reframing stress: Stage fright can be your friend | Presentations - Lets get creative! | Scoop.it
Fear of public speaking tops death and spiders as the nation’s number one phobia.
Suzanne Izzard's insight:

Would you believe my son in this photo suffers from stage fright? Well he has for many years and yet with the right help and mindset he has overcome it and is now back in the driving seat...this article explains that before speaking in public and presenting we should try to reframe any stress, this can then help us to perform better.

Suzanne Izzard's comment, March 17, 2013 8:51 AM
I love it when an article promotes people into dialogue, it shows the depth of feeling the article has prompted. For me authenticity is key in all communication and Nick thank you for writing and sharing this .
Karen Dietz's comment, March 17, 2013 2:49 PM
I agree Suzanne. The more 'real' we can be, the better a business does. And authenticity is so refreshing in this age of hype!

Effective storytelling for business

Effective storytelling for business | Presentations - Lets get creative! | Scoop.it

As content takes its rightful place at the forefront of marketing, I'm seeing many marketers fail at basic storytelling.

Marketers are ineffective when they use the classic "customer testimonial" format and pop that onto their blog or make it into a video. "Here’s our product. It is great. Here are customers who say it is great. Now buy some of our product." This just doesn't hold people's attention.

How interesting would a book or movie be were it to have this plot?:
Boy meets girl.
They fall in love.
They get married.

That's what most people do with their business writing.

Effective storytelling

The best stories drip with conflict. They have a hero and sometimes a villain. There is a story arc. As a writing teacher once told me: "Writing without conflict is propaganda."

Two Pens's curator insight, February 19, 2013 11:30 PM

All business have conflict: lack of sales, poor service, employee malaise...

The issue is often that management doesn't want to talk about the negative but you have to have a hellish situation in order to make a story compelling.

Body Language - Non Verbal - Group work

Body Language - Non Verbal - Group work | Presentations - Lets get creative! | Scoop.it
Suzanne Izzard's insight:

Body Language and non-verbal indicators and movements have the biggest impact (55%) when communicating and these can be good, bad and ugly depending on what you do!! So your presentation can be memorable for great reasons or not so great depending on how you communicate non verbaly….so this is a key area to pay attention to. This picture shows just a few areas you need to consider when presenting. Get someone to observe and give you feedback and see where you excel and where you might need to develop to engage the audience more.

Group work..your VOCALS what to consider when communicating

Group work..your VOCALS what to consider when communicating | Presentations - Lets get creative! | Scoop.it
Suzanne Izzard's insight:

Vocals e.g. the tone of your voice, the pitch, intonation, pace, speed and sound account for 38% of how we communicate compared to 7% Words and 55% Non Verbal e.g body language. This is just a sample of ideas from group work at one of my workshops where we discuss and share ideas of how we can maximise and use our vocals to get the best impact. Great work guys!
