How to Answer the 5 Toughest Job Interview Questions - US News

How to Answer the 5 Toughest Job Interview Questions - US News | Interview Advice & Tips | Scoop.it
Prepare for these common, but daunting, interview questions.

Via Christine Sjolander
Patricia D. Sadar - Career and Leadership Acceleration Coach's insight:

I love to ask the question, "Describe a mistake you made in the past few months and what did you learn from it?"  It is similar to the question that is in this article "Describe a time you failed."

What I look for in a candidate's response is someone who is honest, who has learned from the mistake, ....and most importantly has adapted their appraoch to prevent the same mistake from happening in the future.

The question about the weakness is similar.  When a person is asked, "Describe one of your weaknesses."  Individuals who respond with statements such as an area of opportunity that I identified this year to work on is ____.  What I have done to develop in this area is ___, and the results are ___.

Gaps in employment are tricky.  My advice is to demonstrate that you have been making valuable use of your time.  It could be volunteering, taking care of an ill family member, developing your skills through continued education, etc.

I hope you find this article helpful.

#Interviewing - don't throw in the towel! | Interview Advice & Tips | Scoop.it
Patricia D. Sadar - Career and Leadership Acceleration Coach's insight:

I can't say that I have met many people who said that they love interviewing.  As a matter of fact, most people have found it to be hard work and a bit stressful.

While you may not have much choice about the resume, application, and interview process...you always have a choice of how you approach it.  Remember why you are interviewing, and keep your goals in sight.

Do your best to surround yourself with people who will lift and support you.  Don't ever think that you are alone -- that is what this community is all about -- helping eachother reach our goals!

Until next time...Hoping these articles, tips, and quotes help you accelerate your success and live on Purpose!

Sometimes, it's good to know when to quit...and go another direction. You're not quitting for good--you're quitting because what you've been doing isn't working.  There's a huge difference, and continuing to beat your head against a brick wall isn't going to help at all.

As long as you don't answer "Because of soul-crushing incompetence," I believe that most interviewees can answer this question with relative ease. After all, you've surely been on more than one interview (in this economy, YOU HAVE) so practice what you'll say BEFORE you get to the interview. In fact, try it in different voices: Barry White, Betty Boop, Curly Howard...the list goes on. Putting some humor into it may help you remember your answer better.

Take some time out to answer them once and for all!  Make a story for each question, rehearse (via recording yourself) and go from there.
