Patricia D. Sadar - Career and Leadership Acceleration Coach's insight:

The job of the resume is to talk for you, sell you to the recruiters, and Land you the interview!  So now that you have the interview, we should not rely on experience to land you the job.

Besides your experience and skills...why would you hire you for the position?  What makes you the best candidate for the job?  If everyone else had more experience and skills than you -- what strengths and competencies would separate you from the competition?

Do yourself a favor and reflect on the above three questions.  If you don't know why you are the best candidate how will the interviewer know?

What to Wear on An #Interview - Project Eve | Interview Advice & Tips | Scoop.it
You know your strengths and weaknesses, you've done research on the company and the job BUT you are struggling with what to wear on an interview.
Patricia D. Sadar - Career and Leadership Acceleration Coach's insight:

Putting your best foot forward is like wearing a sign that says to the employer "This position and this interview is important to me"

There is one more thing:  When you look your best, you feel your best, and it boosts your confidence.  Most everyone could use a boost of confidence when they are faced with an important interview.

So next time you have that important interview:

- Take the time to plan out what you are going to wear.

- Make sure that the attire is professional and appropriate for the interview setting. (There is a difference with what you would wear to the beach, gym, mall, and clubs)

Not only will you look good you will feel good -- that can't be a bad thing right?

Lots of luck on acing your next interview.  Until next time...PS - Live on Purpose!

There is nothing more important than the first impression one gives to someone. When going to an interview, a person has to look its best with a suite if possible clean and in her/his best presentation. The first impression and how you dress is crucial to start the process of the interview with a positive ending.

It amazes me how many people do not follow up after an interview.

I can't tell you how many times a hiring decision was down to 2-3 candidates.  The hiring manager then starts comparing everything to help him or her select one candidate over another.  Then they receive a genuine, well thought out thank you note from one candidate.  The decision is made:)

Patricia D. Sadar - Career and Leadership Acceleration Coach's curator insight, July 5, 7:28 AM

When I read this quote today, I could not wait to share it.  I don't know if anyone has ever taken on the challenge of eliminating excuses all together; however, I can tell you it is not as easy as it sounds.

I challenged myself over a year ago to start removing words and habits that did not serve me.  I initially  thought that I rarely made excuses; however, when it was on my radar I started noticing that was not the case.

I would make comments to my kids like, I didn't get to that because....then I noticed that I was making excuses for everyone around me (my family, friends, etc.)

It took some time to re-wire my thoughts, words, and actions.

So the challenge is this:  for those of you who have done this, what advice and lessons do you have to share?

For everyone else -- why not challenge yourself to eliminate excuses.  The huge benefit that I noticed is that I hold myself to higher standards and hold myself to be accountable for my actions and decisions.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Until next time....PS - Live on Purpose!

Here’s the problem: More than ever before, change is the rule, not the exception, in business. Globalization means more competition. Christopher Janney's curator insight, May 28, 5:23 AM

The way we understand leadership today needs to evolve. Understanding that what you once knew that got you where you are is not enough to keep going is important. Understanding the new responsibilities and expectations of leaders is important. For instance, being a good leader sometimes means being a good follower. And as this article points out, a good leader is a consummate learner. Without that, the things you are leading people to have already passed and others are already on to the next thing.

Patricia D. Sadar - Career and Leadership Acceleration Coach's insight:

Interviewing can be an awful lot like first dates.  You put so much time and effort into what you are going to wear, what you are going to say, and how to put your best foot forward.

The entire interview process surely can play its toll on a person.  Take a read on some tips to help you make the interview process a smoother more relaxing one.

Quick tip:  Think of the stress that you have bottled up as positive energy.  You need that energy in order to be at your best.  The key is to be purposeful and use your energy to your advantage.

Smile, walk with energy, be alert, and be fully engaged.  Remember your technical skills and experience may have gotten you the invite for the interview; however, what will land you the job is your interpersonal skills and competencies.

Read this before your next job interview.
Patricia D. Sadar - Career and Leadership Acceleration Coach's insight:

Excellent article with valuable insight!

I particularly agree with the fact that many people aren't able to convey how their attributes will add value to the role, department, and company.  If someone is a good story teller they should not forget the point of the story.

A model from my Interview Advice book will help you to stay on target, and bring home the results.  I refer to it as the CAR model that you can use for behavioral interview questions or when you want to tell a concise story while ending it on a high note with a positive outcome.

The C stands for Circumstances.  Describe concisely the circumstances around the story you are describing.  Who, What, When, and Where.

A stands for Action(s) - Descirbe the actions you took and who you involved.

R - stands for Results.  Describe not just with words; however, also include numbers and measures that are metrics that are important to the role and company.

For example, the solution resulted in an increase of revenue from ___ to ___, which exceed the revenue target by 70%

Hope you enjoy this article, and hope the model helps you ace your next interview!
