My BIG List of iPad Coding Apps for Kids! - Jonathan Wylie

My BIG List of iPad Coding Apps for Kids! - Jonathan Wylie | Prendi Specialist Subjects & Languages | Scoop.it

"December 9-15, 2013 is Computer Science Education Week, and this year their big push is to get coding incorporated into school curriculums everywhere. There are lots of reasons why kids should be coding, but none more than the fact that there are more resources than ever to help students and teachers get started, regardless of their previous experiences with computer programming. So, in honor of the #HourOfCode project, here is my BIG list of iPad coding apps for kids. There is something here for students of all ages."

Melissa Marshall's insight:
Some excellent coding apps here. I have been looking into coding apps for the Tech X Perts as I believe it is a critical skill for young people - it involves both logic and creativity and can really take them places.

5 Simple Tools For Teachers To Create And Publish Apps Of Their Own - TeachThought

5 Simple Tools For Teachers To Create And Publish Apps Of Their Own - TeachThought | Prendi Specialist Subjects & Languages | Scoop.it

"What with the almost universal proliferation of smartphones among students, even at the elementary school level, it would seem like a no-brainer for an educator to utilize mobile apps as effective and readily-accepted learning tools. And if an educator can’t find an app that does exactly what he or she wants, the logical next step is to develop and publish their own. Besides, what else do they have to do with all the free time with which all educators are blessed?"

Why Extra Curricular Activities Are Not Extra

Why Extra Curricular Activities Are Not Extra | Prendi Specialist Subjects & Languages | Scoop.it
School districts have been quick to cut music and art programs when budgets get tight, focusing instead on "employable" skills like math and science. But there's a strong body of research indicating that neglecting the arts in school puts students at a cognitive disadvantage throughout life.
