How Technology Trends Have Influenced the Classroom

How Technology Trends Have Influenced the Classroom | Prendi eLearning - Education, Technology, iPads... | Scoop.it
Teachers all over America are faced with this challenge of keeping students engaged in the classroom when their world outside of school is one of constant engagement and stimulation. Knowing the world outside of our institutional walls is only one step in addressing modern learning styles. How to act and adjust schools today is the next step in making the classroom of today ready for tomorrow.
Melissa Marshall's insight:

An interesting (albeit American) article that addresses some of the changes that are going on for kids outside of the four walls of the classroom, and how that impacts them inside. It gives suggestions on ways of engaging students as well.

Duarte creates presentations and offers training based on our unique VisualStory™ methodology, which applies storytelling and visual thinking to craft persuasive communications designed to shift audience beliefs and behaviours

Melissa Marshall's insight:

Another way of making colourful, informative reference documents. Slidedocs is not really designed for presentations, but rather to construct a non-linear document with information and images.

Reflecting on 30 years of the Mac in education

Reflecting on 30 years of the Mac in education | Prendi eLearning - Education, Technology, iPads... | Scoop.it
The original Macintosh's interface helped open classroom doors to computers.

Via EDTECH@UTRGV
Melissa Marshall's insight:

Ah, look at that Apple Macintosh. The first computer I ever used in the back of the Year 4 classroom. You could do Paint drawings on it and print them on a dot-matrix printer. Computer time was only when you had finished your work. Now, I look at the students clutching their iPad Airs and I am shocked to think that one day they will look back on an iPad with the same antiquated fondness that I have for the Macintosh.

The iPad will be the 'oldest' and 'worst' technology they will ever use.

5 Things I Wish Everyone Understood About Educational Technology

5 Things I Wish Everyone Understood About Educational Technology | Prendi eLearning - Education, Technology, iPads... | Scoop.it

Via EDTECH@UTRGV, Lynnette Van Dyke
Melissa Marshall's insight:

This is really so important. The first one in particular - in that it is not about the technology. Tech should always be the vehicle, not the driver, of good education, and we cannot get hung up on learning discrete skills. Instead, it is a case of what works best for the kids and engages them?

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 17, 2014 8:01 PM

The first one is huge. It is not about technology. It is about good pedagogy which figures out when to use technology appropriately as part of a complex conversation.

ClassDojo

ClassDojo | Prendi eLearning - Education, Technology, iPads... | Scoop.it

ClassDojo is a classroom management app that allows students to keep track of positive and negative 'points'. Students love its bright and clear interface - there is also a student app to allow them to see where they are at!

Melissa Marshall's insight:

I use ClassDojo for managing infringements and providing positive feedback to younger students. The Year 7s still love customising their avatars and checking feedback. I find it easier than using Traits in SEQTA and much more interactive.

You can import your class list in then throw it up on the projector to prompt students to do the right thing!
