46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency. It’s curious they haven’t really “caught on” in schools considering how well they bridge both the old-form textbook habit of cramming tons of information into a small space, while also neatly overlapping with the dynamic and digital world.

Technology Will Not Replace Teachers

Technology Will Not Replace Teachers | Prendi eLearning - Education, Technology, iPads... | Scoop.it
Technology can open doors, expand minds, and change the world. That may be true, but it's not the panacea that it's been made out to be. As much innovation as the iPad may bring to the classroom, it's not going to replace a teacher anytime soon.

So yes, technology is going to play a critical role in the future of education. But not as big a role as that of a teacher.

Audrey's curator insight, November 3, 2013 2:07 PM

Absolutely true.  Technology is another way to present material which needs to be learned.   Learners will always need someone to explain information found on the iPad in the same way they do with books.

How Digital Writing Is Making Kids Smarter

How Digital Writing Is Making Kids Smarter | Prendi eLearning - Education, Technology, iPads... | Scoop.it

Writing used to be strictly an in-school activity. Now, kids do 40 percent of their writing outside of school. Called “life writing,” young adults’ social writing spans texts, tweets, social media, and blogs -- and all of it’s making kids more literate.

Via Nik Peachey
Melissa Marshall's insight:
A really interesting article about how much writing or kids are actually doing, when often we bemoan their writing in class time. All of this is adding to their literacy - we need to unlock its potential in the classroom and appreciate how they communicate for differing audiences.

I can't believe kids are doing more than 40% of their writing outside of school. "Life writing" may make grammar teachers cringe, but at least students are engaging with others and sharing ideas in this format.

Free Technology for Teachers: 5 Fantastic Apps for Digital Storytelling on iPads | Prendi eLearning - Education, Technology, iPads... | Scoop.it

"Digital storytelling is a powerful tool in the classroom. It is engaging for students and teachers of all grade levels and can be used across the curriculum. Most of all, digital storytelling gives students a voice and a way of communicating information in an authentic manner. One of the great things about digital stories is that there are no “cookie cutter” answers. Each student creates a unique piece that demonstrates their understanding. Digital storytelling on iPad can empower, motivate and engage students, helping them to make deep connections to learning."
