SlideIdea: Make Presentations Different

SlideIdea: Make Presentations Different | Prendi eLearning | Scoop.it

"With SlideIdea, presentations are no longer a one-man show. SlideIdea gives presenters the tools to engage their audience through their audience’s smart phones, laptops, and tablets. Each SlideIdea presentation is provided a unique URL (i.e, www.sld.im/12345 ). Regardless of the location, an audience can simply input the URL into their internet browser and then immediately follow along with slides, participate in polls, ask questions, or even network."

This looks like a great free tool for creating interactive presentations and recording and publishing them. Just downloading it myself.

Filipe Cálix's curator insight, February 16, 4:38 PM

Slideideia permite ainda importar (e melhorar) apresentações Powerpoint e ficheiros Pdf.

Não chega? Muito bem: com Slideideia pode ainda gravar as suas falas durante a apresentação. Excelente!

Melissa Marshall's insight:

How do you engage the whole class, all of the time? There are some great strategies in this article (as well as some of the pitfalls surrounding them), and there is hardly any technology in sight for most of them. It is the way you give instructions, rather than the content or technology or mood or anything, that will engage the class. TAPN is the acronym used: time, amount, public and novelty.

7 Fabulous iPad apps to create short animations for your flipped classroom | Prendi eLearning | Scoop.it

"Flipped learning or flipped classroom is a learning concept that has been making some huge uproar within educational circles for the last couple of years. Flipped classroom is not a new concept as some would argue but only the advance of technology particularly the mobile and handheld gadgetry brought it to the surface and gave it more prominence . I have written profusely about this teaching/learning strategy and  Flipped Learning Resources section here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning features some of these materials.

Today, however, I am sharing with you a set of some wonderful apps that you can use to create short video lessons and tutorials to share with your students."

On Being Wrong: how embracing our fallibility is a good thing | Prendi eLearning | Scoop.it
Most of us will do anything to avoid being wrong. But what if we're wrong about that? "Wrongologist" Kathryn Schulz makes a compelling case for not just admitting but embracing our fallibility.
Melissa Marshall's insight:

This woman is a 'wrongologist' and in this TED talk, encourages us being wrong once in a while. The pressure of always being right can be crushing - very interesting ideas. Being wrong can actually free the brain from damaging thinking patterns, writer's bloc or just being in a creative rut.

Aside from that, I love the term 'wrongologist.'

Information Overload? 10 Ways You & Your Students Can Deal With It

Information Overload? 10 Ways You & Your Students Can Deal With It | Prendi eLearning | Scoop.it

"If you read the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would take you 57,000 years to reach the end. You could bind the pages in a 10,000-foot-tall book weighing 1.2 billion pounds. Printing it would require half a million liters of ink, which is the volume of fuel it would take to power a 747 jet leaving New York and heading east to Tokyo. It would use enough paper to cover half of Long Island, or twice the number of trees in Central Park. If the Ancient Babylonians had started printing the Internet in 1800 BC, they’d be done right about now!"

Via Beth Dichter
Melissa Marshall's insight:

This is an excellent article if you are suffering Internet fatigue. We are taking in more and more information than our brain can process about so many general things, rather than specialising like we used to. According to the article, the feeling of being digitally overwhelmed comes from "our inability to organise and process it...without experiencing cognitive overload." The Internet keeps providing us with "just one more link" so knowing when to stop is difficult.

There is a section called 'Concerns for Students' which is quite insightful.

more...
Beth Dichter's curator insight, April 8, 8:30 PM

To say there is a massive amount of information that comes our way each day is not an understatement. How we deal with information is a different question. If you are feeling overwhelmed but it, or your students are feeling overwhelmed, then you may want to read this post.

Did you know that researchers say that it is "our inability to organize and process it...without experience cognitive overload." The Internet keeps providing us with "just one more link" so knowing when to stop is difficult.

After this discussion the post looks at Concerns for Students and Teachers, discussing eleven areas such as:

* Distractedness

* Mobility madness

* Impaired research skills

Each of these areas are described.

The final section looks at Management Techniques, beginning by looking at a number of ways people have attempted to map the Internet before moving on to a list of ten management techniques that may help you (and your students) prevent information overload including:

* Help students understand the structure of the web and the concept of networking

* Hone your research skills and help students hone theirs

* Use activity streams

Additional information on these techniques (and seven more) are in the post.
