Set how long you want children to use the device, check what apps are on it, send it messages and put it to sleep remotely. Locally made and starting to gain traction. Curbi has a 14-day free trial and can watch up to 5 devices.
Wikispaces: The flipped classroom is an exciting new instructional approach. As it is relatively new, much of the information about it only is available in the popular press. Little research can be found.

This article from the NY Times illustrates what happens in our brains as we learn to write by hand. There is still a place for teaching legible handwriting beyond Year 2 - because, in Year 12, they still have to master 3-hour written exams. And write - for the rest of their life, hopefully.
Might be useful to whack up on the board to remind students how much or how little time they have. I do this with the default Timer on the iPad (particularly during science pracs and/or group activities.)

“I saw really how powerful it was for my students,” Buckleitner said. “I had a few kids who were very hard to teach, and I was able to use that computer to help them get a good report card.”
Today, Buckleitner is the founder of the Children’s Technology Review, an online resource that reviews all kinds of technology aimed at young kids. Now 55, his focus has shifted a lot from the Number Crunchers game that came on that first Apple II, but his vision hasn’t budged."
So now Google has specialised a search for teachers - you can find lesson plans, videos, ideas and activities here. Search by curriculum or by area, or year level... definitely worth a look to find something new!

This fantastic beta site allows you to search quickly and easily for the best apps for whatever you need! They all have reviews and ratings, and are organised logically. This is a great place to look for new and exciting apps, and also compare some you may have seen before. An excellent resource.
Here is another type of Arduino board for creativity and robotics, Hummingbird is compatible with Arduino and offers more flexibility in design and connection. It is more expensive than Makey Makey but might be worth the play!
Here is a summary of the improvements to iOS that might actually go a long way to helping iPads become more functional - particularly extensibility, which means apps will actually talk to each other instead of existing separately. I can finally paste an Evernote file from a Safari weblink.... maybe...
This is a brilliant little tool that would work effectively for differentiation. The student follows the link, pastes in the text and sets a slider to determine the level of difficulty/summarisation needed. This can be, say, 30% of the original text summarised instead of having to read the whole 100% at a level unsuitable for them. The student can then find the level of summarisation that works for them.

This is an interesting article about the investigation of the high-performing Finnish schools, and the fact that their classrooms are fairly low-tech (particularly given that we are spending a lot of money each year on edtech). It seems that the teacher is still the defining element in the classroom, regardless of which technologies students have access to.

A lecture might be the easiest way for information to be delivered, but it is just that - delivery. In order for students to make sense of the information, they must do something with it then and there. This study is about university courses, but it could easily apply to high school as well.
