Miscarriage comics - talking about it by Paula Knight

Miscarriage comics - talking about it by Paula Knight | pregnancy loss and infant death | Scoop.it

I’ve been making comics on the subject for a couple of years now, based on my own experiences of repeated unexplained early miscarriage. I also wrote a post about the language and euphemisms used to refer to miscarriage. As well as a natural urge to express myself through creativity, my hope has been to express something that others can’t, and to help break taboos. Comics can do this because pictures replace the need for words which are hard to say – or it seems that the symbiosis of words and pictures can speak louder than words alone and the impact is more immediate. And perhaps this could help in breaking the silence surrounding miscarriage.

Study Shows Influenza Vaccines Cause Spontaneous Abortions and Stillbirths

Study Shows Influenza Vaccines Cause Spontaneous Abortions and Stillbirths | pregnancy loss and infant death | Scoop.it

A comparison of fetal-loss reports in the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System during three consecutive influenza seasons shows there was a synergistic toxicity causing spontaneous abortions and stiillbirths following the Center for Disease Control recommendations of pandemic and influenza vaccines administered to pregnant women.

An overwhelming majority of pregnant women who visit the doctor's office are now refusing the flu vaccine over fears it will harm their fetus and their fears are now scientifically justified. More than 90% of all expecting mothers now say no to the flu vaccine due to fear of miscarriage and delivery of toxic byproducts to their unborn child.

Extra chromosome 21 removed from Down syndrome (trisomy 21) cell line

Extra chromosome 21 removed from Down syndrome (trisomy 21) cell line | pregnancy loss and infant death | Scoop.it

University of Washington scientists have succeeded in removing the extra copy of chromosome 21 in cell cultures derived from a person with Down syndrome, a condition in which the body’s cells contain three copies of chromosome 21 rather than the usual pair. A triplicate of any chromosome is a serious genetic abnormality called a trisomy. Trisomies account for almost one-quarter of pregnancy loss from spontaneous miscarriages, according to the research team. Besides Down syndrome (trisomy 21), some other human trisomies are extra Y or X chromosomes, and Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18) and Patau syndrome (trisomy 13), both of which have extremely high newborn fatality rates.

The targeted removal of a human trisomy, they noted, could have both clinical and research applications. In live births, Down syndrome is the most frequent trisomy. The condition has characteristic eye, facial and hand features, and can cause many medical problems, including heart defects, impaired intellect, premature aging and dementia, and certain forms of leukemia, a type of blood cancer.

Studies identify most common causes, risk factors for stillbirth

The Stillbirth Collaborative Research Network (SCRN) has reported that performing a systematic medical evaluation leads to a probable or possible cause of death in the majority of stillbirths. According to a study published in the Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the most common causes of stillbirth differ across racial and ethnic groups, with resulting implications for monitoring and prevention of this devastating pregnancy outcome.
