Did you know that consuming a total plant based real whole food plan is just about the best and easiest way to control your blood sugar, maintain a healthy weight, look and feel younger, have more energy than you ever did, and even reverse diabetes type 2?  Most mainstream doctors are never taught this information in medical schools. 

 

It is up to you to do your due diligence and either re-educate your health provider or find a functional and/or integrative medicine doctor, naturopath, homeopathic doctor, Chinese or Ayurvedic practitioner, nutritionist, and food consultant who is knowledgeable in this arena. Mainstream focuses on symptoms of diseases (blood sugar lowering meds, blood pressure pills, etc.) not the root cause (change your lifestyle and food choices). 

 

Are you aware that abdominal fat (the kind that builds up around your internal organs) is the worst kind of body fat? Having a potbelly may be the strongest predictor of pre-mature death writes Dr Michael Greger, in his book “How Not to Die”. 

 

A better way than using BMI to gauge the health risks of body fat is to use the Waist-to-Height Ratio tool (WHtR). All you need is a measuring tape. “Stand up straight, take a deep breathe, exhale, and let your whole stomach hang out.

 

The circumference of your belly (halfway between the top of your hip bones and the bottom of your rib cage) should be half your height-ideally less”. If that measurement is more than half your height, it’s time to start eating healthier food and exercising more no matter what you weigh.

 

Health Tips:  Consuming legumes or pulses (beans, peas, lentils) have been shown to be just as effective at reducing the size of your waistline and improving your blood sugar control as does cutting calories. Legumes have other benefits as they improve cholesterol and insulin regulation.

 

Research shows that the majority of people who who lose weight through calorie control eventually regain it. Eat more delicious plant based real whole food, including sprouts, greens, veggies, seeds/nuts, herbs and spices, fruit, whole ancient grains, healthy fats as in avocados and nuts/seeds.
