Evidence is strong to support a low-carb diet approach to the treatment of diabetes. It could be argued that reducing carbs also reduces one's intake of processed foods. Flushing out the difference is an important next step.

Sugary Drinks Tied to Increased Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

Sugary Drinks Tied to Increased Risk of Type 2 Diabetes | PreDiabetes News | Scoop.it
If you're still clinging to soda pop despite all odds, new research has just given you one more reason to can it once and for all. That's because striking new data has linked sugary drinks and artificially sweetened drinks directly with increased cases of Type 2 Diabetes.

Sandi Cornez's curator insight, August 10, 10:09 PM

Are you still drinking diet soda and regular soda? Haven't you heard the news yet that these beverages cause weight gain and lead to Diabetes for obese individuals?  Well hold on to your cans because there's way more nasty stuff coming up for you to digest.

A new study out of the University of Cambridge, has linked all sugary drinks and ingestion of artificially fake sugars directly with "increased cases of Type 2 diabetes". So what this news means for you is that regardless whether you're overweight or thin; you increase your chance of getting diabetes every time you opt to drink a sugary or fake sugar sweetened beverage per day.

As you've read before on this site, sugar and its poisonous allies aka artificial sweeteners are definitely not your friends. Think fruit juice is good. Think again. Most commercial fruit juices contain 50% or more sugar and about 1% fruit plus the good fiber has been stripped out. Eat whole fruit instead.

Diabetes is one of the most serious and widespread (check the map in the article) diseases of our times. Yet diabetes is preventable with simple lifestyle changes which you've read about in my Zestful-living site.

Telltale signs of impending diabetes are excessive thrust and hunger, with frequent urination. Diabetics are often extremely hungry because sufficient levels of glucose aren't getting into cells or to their brain, thus the ravenous cravings, usually for simple carbs (sugar, white flour, crackers, processed junk foods). the excess sugar that is not metabolized is stored as fat, which is why people with diabetes gain weight.

Health Tips:  Do whatever you can to get off the sugar roller coaster Work with a nutritional educator, Functional or Integrative medicine doctor. For those of you who just think drinking one can a day or eating one sugary snack a day is okay, please read this and other posts on this site again and again. Sorry, but it's not okay and your body is paying dearly for your choice, not to mention your family and other loved ones.

Try drinking filtered water with lemon/lime slices, frozen sliced fruit, a small amount of organic flavored Stevia or herbal teas like hibiscus and green tea or peppermint/lavender tea.  Did you know you can make your own sparkling beverages with fruit and a little maple syrup for the healthy sweetener?

You can also make green drinks. Carrots, and beets are sweet veggies, add some raw ginger root for zing. Try your hand at making green smoothies adding one piece of fruit like apples, pears.

Here's an interesting article on "Sugary Drinks Tied to Increased Risk of Type 2 Diabetes" from csfcamp.com by Jeremy Ryland
