Promoting a Culture of Learning

Promoting a Culture of Learning | pre-service teacher ideas | Scoop.it
Learning is a culture.

It starts as a culture with the students as human beings needing to understand their environment. And it ends as a culture with students taking what we give them and using it
tom jackson's insight:

Your classroom becomes a truly learning lab when you create a trusting culture where students may express their thoughts without fer of ridicule.  Empowering them to take over responsibility requires that they be taught how to treat and respect each others ideas first. A suggestion is the use of the gradual release model where students practice and are guided to create and sustain the culture of learning

video created by students = powerful assessment of knowledge. many are familiar with modalities of learning and that providing a challenge tat is achievable, yet still a challenge is a great way to engage students in learning. Think about gamers who are playing for hours at a time, they basically are scaffolded by carefully crafted levels of challenge, and as they master a level are faced with a slightly different or new higher level challenge. When students are allowed to create video of their study and knowledge similar wonderful things happen 1) they vicariously learn new content and video skills from their peers work, 2) they are challenged to develop their output in a form that is clarified and richer.
