Existen diferentes objetivos de monitorización a la hora de analizar y monitorizar tu marca. Según selecciones uno u otro, las funcionalidades de la herramienta variarán.

Abstract

This article provides a tutorial review of some fundamental ideas and important methods for the modeling of empirical social network data. It describes basic concepts from graph theory and central elements from social network theory. It presents models for the network degree distribution and for network roles and positions, as well as algebraic approaches, before reviewing recent work on statistical methods to analyze social networks, including boot-strap procedures for testing the prevalence of network structures, basic edge- and dyad-independent statistical models, and more recent statistical network models that assume dependence, exponential random graph models and dynamic stochastic actor oriented models. Network social influence models are reviewed. The article concludes with a summary of new developments relating to models for time-ordered transactions.

Scientific American won 3 bronze medals in the print category, for “Exoplanets Everywhere” (print version below, web-formatted version here), “Space Age Wasteland” (print version below, web-formatted version here), and a 5-page portfolio of the Graphic Science department page—including the 2 pages listed above, as well as “Tag—You’re Sick” (web-formatted version here), “Americans Get Fatter, Drunker” (web-formatted version here), and “Water In, Water Out” (web-formatted version here).

 

Best of Show awards were bestowed upon National Geographic (“An Army for the Afterlife,” print), and the New York Times (“Lolo Jones, Cleared for Takeoff,” online). The Miguel Urabayen awards for best map went to the New York Times(“Counties Blue and Red Move to the Right,” print) and ProPublica (“Stateface,” online).

 

Over 1,000 entries from 154 media companies across 28 countries participated in the contest. In total, 21 gold medals, 52 silver medals, and 74 bronze medals were awarded in print and online categories combined.

In an age where “big data” is a Silicon Valley buzzword, people are increasingly bombarded with lots of data that is too complex for them to process. A Silicon Valley company founded by Stanford math professors has emerged to help analysts make sense of it all.

 

The company, Ayasdi, (Cherokee for “to seek,”) has pioneered a way to help people visualize and digest complex data, from sports statistics, to financial models, to genetic maps.

 

The company was born out of one of the most arcane areas of mathematics: topology, which is a type of geometry. The link between the past and present is Stanford math professor Gunnar Carlsson, one of Ayasdi’s founders. Carlsson’s programs allow complex data to be viewed in a 3-D structure, which highlights patterns in a more accessible way than an overwhelming spreadsheet or other form of data display.

 

Ayasdi’s main goal is to take Carlsson’s theories and apply them to real world problems – finding the relationships between certain genes and the incidence of cancer or analyzing what kinds of sports statistics denote a particular playing style.

 

With other programs, researchers need to know what they are looking for. They can search through big data sets, but they must do so in a targeted way, or have a guess at what patterns may already exist. With Iris, one of Ayasdi’s products, unexpected patterns can be detected, sometimes with enormous benefit.

 

Iris specializes in finding “a small signal in a noisy data set,” Johnson said. Groups of data can be compared with the push of one button. The statistical significance of a certain event can be perceived in seconds.

By applying and analysing emotional labels, the software can construct sentiment scores for the concepts mentioned in the text, as a combination of positive, negative and neutral results. For example, in the sentence, “The region's largest economies were still mired in recession,” the parser finds four of the words in the sentiment lexicon: largest (positive, neutral or negative); economies (positive or neutral); mired (negative); and recession (negative). It then analyses the sentence structure, starting with “economies” and progressing to “largest economies”, “region's largest economies” and “the region's largest economies”. At each stage, it computes the changing sentiment of the sentence. It then does the same for the second half of the sentence.

 

Instead of simply adding up the number of positive and negative mentions for each concept, the software applies a weighting to each one. For example, short pieces of text such as “region” are given less weight than longer ones such as “the region's largest economies”. Once the parser has reassembled the original text (“the region's largest economies were still mired in recession”) it can correctly identify the sentence as having a mainly negative meaning with respect to the concept of “economies”.
