Does Outdoor Advertising Still Work?

Does Outdoor Advertising Still Work? | Public Relations and Communication--Unleashing the power of communication. | Scoop.it

You remember outdoor advertising, don’t you? And when I say “outdoor advertising, I’m talking about billboards. You know those huge poster boards that dot the main highways and CBD area of our great land. Wheather we pay attentionm to the billboards? What impact, if any, billboards have on us when it comes to marketing and advertising?

what information we are gleaning from a billboard varies as according to the study more than half of billboard viewers aged 18 or older have…

Learned about an event they were interested in attending (58%)

Learned about a restaurant they later visited (58%)

Talked about something funny they saw on a roadside billboard (56%)

Been reminded to tune into a TV program (33%) or a radio station (44%)

Noted a phone number (26%) or Web site address (28%) written on an outdoor billboard

Billboard advertising is effective as its aim is at a large group of people. Companies are able to easily target a specific population or group, and pay relatively lower prices for outdoor advertising, especially as technology increases and billboards become simpler to design.

Increased automobile usage and traffic over the years also contribute to the success that outdoor billboard advertising has seen. As consumers sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic, they typically have nothing more to look at than billboard advertising. Billboards cannot be avoided, either. For example, a radio station can be changed during an advertisement, or a TV station muted or turned off. This provides companies advertising with longer exposure, ultimately resulting in billboards and outdoor advertising that works.

The billboard advertising for the event "Public Relations and Communication 2013"will be on for 2 weeks (17-31Aug) covering 2 CBD of Shanghai.Let's see how this works.

Another switch in communication can be seen of late. Pictures and graphics have overtaken words as a ‘preferred’ communication tool. More a more corporations are using pictures and photographs to tell their story. Meaningful messages can be conveyed better with a photograph and within a shorter time.
