This summer, NBC notched up its highest ratings for a foreign Summer Olympics since 1976 in Montreal.

This summer, NBC notched up its highest ratings for a foreign Summer Olympics since 1976in Montreal. With 219 million people tuning it at one time or another, NBC calls it the “most-watched TV event in U.S. history.”

Network says 219m people watched London 2012 Games, despite complaints over scheduling

Similarly, the BBC had the highest ratings in a couple of decades, too.

Are staycations partly the explanation?
