From this article, I learnt that there are many types of prejudice towards various stereotype groups. People select and interpret evidence consistent with their own pre-existing attitudes and ideologies.

From this article I learnt that thre are many types of prejudice towards various stereotype groups. Also that these people intepret evidence based on their own judgements.

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's curator insight, July 2, 2013 11:52 AM

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see that there are various types of prejudice towards certain stereotype groups and that it affects politics in a large scale. I think that these various types of prejudice should cease. Nothing can be gained out of hate, already bad situations only get worse when prejudice is involved. I wonder why the prejudice is such a commonly linked issue with politics.

OpenIDEO - How might we inspire and enable communities to take more initiative in making their local environments better?

OpenIDEO - How might we inspire and enable communities to take more initiative in making their local environments better? | Poverty Assignment by_Darentan | Scoop.it

Singapore started out as a small fishing village but, rather quickly, turned into a sprawling metropolis. Like many other countries, it has reached a highly developed state. Public agencies such as Singapore's National Environment Agency would like to envision how to rejuvenate our local environments to inspire and enable communities to make our living environments better – and are eager to collaborate with the global community to explore solutions which resonate in Singapore and across the world.

Using the 'see-think-wonder' I can see that Singapore is enthusiastic about collaboration with other countries. This is because a country cannot survive on it's own especially a country as small as Singapore. But even though Singapore is a small country it is recognised globally. I think that this is a great opportunity to foster good ties with other countries especially those in Asia as more problems are arising regionally and globally. By working together with other countries, global or regional crisis can be averted, like the recent Haze issue. Working together can prove to be effective and may stop major issues from happening ahead of time. I wonder what other ways can we foster good relationships with other countries and how we can solve the problems we face.

Wu Weiyang's curator insight, July 3, 2013 11:30 AM

I see that Singapore has reached the status of a developed country and we are still trying to further improve ourselves. I think that collaborating with the global community will allow Singapore to be heard and enable ourselves to reach greater heights with the help of other countries' opinions. I wonder if there are other ways to make our living environments better other than collaborating with the global community.

Teoh Jun Fang's curator insight, July 5, 2013 10:27 AM

(See-Think-Wonder) From this article, I can see that Singapore has developed very well and quickly over the years. Singapore started out small but now, it is a bustling city with good economy. Now that the population is growing, we need to have a good environment, connection with neighbouring countries, etc for the future generations. I think that working with the other countries is the best solution since Singapore is such a small country that does not have much natural resources. I wonder what will happen if other countries refuse to work with Singapore?

I see that their hard work and perseverance has paid off. I think they have worked very hard and went through many obstacles to become successful. I wonder if everyone was like that, would becoming successful be 'successful'?

Jasmine Goh's curator insight, July 2, 2013 12:43 PM

After reading this article, I know that it is not easy to achieve success. The people in this article came from different backgrounds but they all faced setbacks in order to become successful. Although they struggled, these businessmen and businesswomen were able to achieve success through their determination as well as their willingness to sacrifice. Many of them took up several jobs to pay for their education fees. They were humble and had the courage to take risks. Through their hard work and effort, they eventually became successful. I think that if you want to be successful in life, you must have the determination to achieve your goal and believe that you are able to survive through the obstacles faced in the process. These people serve as my role model as they are local and they inspire me to work harder in everything I do. I wonder if they ever had the thought of giving up at the most difficult times in their lives.

Racism is a white man's 'invention': Indians may be bigoted, prejudiced and intolerant, but racist? Let's hold our horses

Racism is a white man's 'invention': Indians may be bigoted, prejudiced and intolerant, but racist? Let's hold our horses | Poverty Assignment by_Darentan | Scoop.it
Race is a tricky term. We might be bigoted, prejudiced and illiberal. We are casteist, yes, and we divide ourselves on the basis of region and religion, but racist? I would hold my horses. This is a matter for debate.

Leonard Wagnerboy's curator insight, June 30, 2013 8:08 AM

From this article, I can see that racism is the most common in India.Apparently, Indians are not comfortable with having foreigners as neighbours. Prejudice or racism in this case, is a serious and common problem today. I find it very unfair for a person to be looked down on or even criticised just because of their skin colour. Racism can lead to violence as the conflict between two races are very common today.I feel that even though there may be hundreds and thousands of different type of races, humanity eventually still shares the same colour of blood. So why should humans destroy themselves? Racism is strongly a painful experience, so please stop it.

Kar Hang Cheung's curator insight, June 30, 2013 12:10 PM

From this article,i can see that racism is a common thing in India, have the fact that a large percentage of them dislike having a neighbour of different race or colour.Prejudices and racism is said to be common in India, but i believe such prejudices in India is in a different form than the prejudices occuring in the western countries. The Indians are said to be prejudices who act and dress against the social norms rather than those with significant, different in race or religion.Whereas in Western countries, people are mostly prejudices towards people of different races or religion. This leads to some of the people delibrately changing the way they look and carry themselves to fit into the socials norms and avoid negative criticism or from being outcasted.I believe that racism should not exist as it indirectly surpresses personal thoughts and creativity.I strongly agree that everyone in this world should be given the freedom to express themseleves and be respected for they are.I wonder when will racism stop.

Seah Jun Hao Reynard's curator insight, July 1, 2013 10:39 AM

I can see that both parties of Indians and Britons are both racists. I think that we should not be racist to anyone no matter what race or colour they are. I wonder what could one gain by being racist to someone who is the same as him, a human.

Teo J-lyn's curator insight, July 3, 2013 3:23 AM

I can see that when people are awlays being exposed to negative thoughts and information, they tend to make bad choices due to their negative thoughts, affecting the way he or she lead their life. This cause people to feel demoralised , which will also affect the way they think. Thus, it is important to think positive, and see the brighter side of life. This will allow people to strive towards their goal, and have their desired outcome. I think attitude plays a important role in the way we think. i wonder why do people not think the positive side of life.

Jaslyn Si Jia's curator insight, July 4, 2013 5:59 AM

After reading this article, I realized that positive attitude is needed to determine the life we're living in and also the possibilities that we can achieve. Many people may be affected in their life due to the negative thoughts and attitude that they have, if they had positive attitude in all the things they do, they would live a better life and discover things that they might have never discovered before. These positive attitude and thoughts leads to finding even more possibilities and lead us to the right path onto our future.

Coven Chong Weng's curator insight, July 5, 2013 7:09 AM

From this article, i realise that with the right attitude, we can come up with all different kind of outcome in some situations. If your attitude is positive for everything, everything might just turn out the way that you want it. However if you have a negative attitude, things will not go the way you want it to and it might get even worse. Thus, i wonder why some people dont think with a positive attitude.
