Coalition to unveil radical plans to cut child poverty
The Guardian
Radical plans to cut water, food and fuel bills for low-income families are being considered by the coalition as part of the government's new child poverty strategy.
hui jun kai's insight:

i find this scoop it interesting as it contradict the theory as which the income are too low for people thus they suffer poverty but if they increase the price to get more pay for them people that suffer poverty cannot afford stuff as they are too expensive.By decreasing the cost of food, the farmers for example banana will suffer poverty because the government will pay them lesser because they decrease the price in the market and if they increase the price the people that already suffer from poverty get worse. So i feel that this 2 method contradict each other instead if 1 increase the income it should not affect the price in the market

Cheap bananas threaten farmers' futures. Fairtrade is calling on the government to investigate the grave impact of unsustainable supermarket pricing practices. (Brutal supermarket price wars are trapping banana farmers in poverty!
hui jun kai's insight:

i find this scoop it very interesting as nobody would ever think that banana being as cheap as it is now can cost people to go into poverty. The insight is about a person who is suffering from poverty because they are selling the hard earned banana too low to attract more customers thus less income for the harvesters then might have not enough money to sustain their own family.I think we should also sometimes higher the pay for certain items or people like them will suffer poverty because of our mindset of having things cheaper for poor people to buy but instead make people to try and find a job that give them enough income instead

Poor losing out in African boom, according to new report - The Guardian

Poor losing out in African boom, according to new report - The Guardian | poverty | Scoop.it
The Guardian Poor losing out in African boom, according to new report The Guardian Soaring economic growth in many African countries is coming at the expense of the poor, according to a new report that urges governments to overhaul their tax...
hui jun kai's insight:

i find that this scoop it is very interesting because It reflects the inability of governments to tax the proceeds of growth, either because so much is given away in corporate tax breaks, or has escaped offshore into tax havens.Until tax dodging is tackled effectively, nationally and internationally, and illicit finance flows from the continent halted, economic inequality will continue to rise.It also argue that income tax thresholds are too low and do not protect the poor.I feel that it is true that people suffer poverty because of to less income but if the price is too high people that suffer poverty will still be stuck in the same scenario so i feel that the government should try and help by starting more companies to hire people and start free schools for the people to study and have the chance to work hard to escape poverty
