Goodbye, Christian America; Hello, True Christianity

Goodbye, Christian America; Hello, True Christianity | Post Adventist | Scoop.it
Christians can stop worrying about the symbols of the decline of Christian America and get back to the mission Jesus gave us to show the world a different way to live -- a way that demonstrates the great character of God.
Gary Walter's insight:

This is exactly right!

8 tips for presenting cross-culturally | The Virtual Presenter

8 tips for presenting cross-culturally | The Virtual Presenter | Post Adventist | Scoop.it
In a recent webinar Nicola asked, “If my presentation is for a cross-cultural audience, what things do I need to keep in mind?
Gary Walter's insight:

As missionaries to foreign lands, we do relatively well in cross-cultural communication. But how do we do locally? How well do we speak intergenerationally? How well do moderns connect with postmoderns, and vice versa?

Can you, a churched individual, speak to the unchurched - in a language and manner they understand? I doubt it.

Have you studied the terrain, the language, the values, and the culture? Or have you chosen to preach to the choir?

Welcome to All Power Ministry - with Leo Schreven

Welcome to All Power Ministry - with Leo Schreven | Post Adventist | Scoop.it

Leo took his own life in the early morning hours of Dec 1. Unknown to most people, for many years Leo suffered from a complex mental health disorder. Every possible effort was made by Tamara, his family and very close friends encouraging him to get help. Even to the very last, the family repeatedly assured him and let him know he was loved and appreciated. This year he spiraled downward and particularly in the past few months, weeks and days, it was increasingly evident he was experiencing serious complications.

Daughters of Zion

Daughters of Zion | Post Adventist | Scoop.it
When the time comes and my girls ask about what to do with their lives, I see a world of opportunities. Engineer, academic, doctor, vet, artist, business owner, writer, pharmacist, president of the United States or prime minister of Australia, teacher, pilot, gardener—anything God calls them to pursue. Anything, other than leading a conference in their own Church. For the time being, that door is firmly shut. And I think our church community is much poorer for it. Don’t you?

Embracing Failure: Why the Church Needs to Quit Worrying about Dying

Embracing Failure: Why the Church Needs to Quit Worrying about Dying | Post Adventist | Scoop.it
"I find it interesting, then, that the church often operates with such an institutional fear of failure. I don’t just mean failure in the large our-church-is-dying-and-we-don’t-know-what-to-do sense; I also mean failure in a much smaller we’d-like-to-paint-the-women’s-restroom-yellow-but-what-if-someone-feels-strongly-it-should-be-pink sense. On this account of the church, boldness and creativity emerge as threats to an ouchless existence. In fact, decisions don’t even have to be bold or creative to meet resistance, they just have to represent something different.

This paralyzing fear of failure is why the default answer for declining congregations is “no.”
Gary Walter's insight:

It's been a long time since I've seen so much fear and closed mindedness. It isn't just painful to watch, but it is keeping people away in droves!

5 Things You Don’t Have to Leave Behind When You Leave Fundamentalism

One of the hardest things for a recovering fundamentalist to find is a community of faith where they feel safe yet challenged, included yet taught. I don't know about you, but sometimes it seems like cynicism follows me through every church door, nipping at my heels like a pesky dog as I find my place in the pews

Ellen G. White & New Methods in the Church

Ellen G. White & New Methods in the Church | Post Adventist | Scoop.it
Greater New York Conference Youth Department...

"There are lots of opinions in our church about creativity, innovation, and new ways of doing things. It’s clear, our message and principles do not change; they endure the test of time and are always relevant. How about the methods we use to share our message, do they change? Can they change? Are we bound as a church to use the same approaches of the past in the XXI Century in all geographic locations? Is there room for creativity and innovation within God's remnant church?Ellen G. White had a lot to say about new methods and approaches to share the gospel and to attract people to Jesus."

Sheltering Children - Part 2: Parental Responsibility for Influences

What kinds of dangers threaten our children? It is quite acceptable, in our society, for a parent to protect children from physical dangers. But are there spiritual hazards that are more threatening than mere bodily harm? Jesus said (Matt. 10:28), "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

As Christians we recognize that spiritual and emotional threats are more significant than mere physical perils.

Relaxed Homeschool Mindset

"Relaxed homeschooling....isn't that an oxymoron?"
The problem with most of these readers is that they misunderstand what "relaxed homeschooling" is all about. It isn't a method. Relaxed homeschoolers may use all kinds of methods as they tailor things for each individual child. It isn't a curriculum, or the absence of a curriculum. I've used various books and materials over the years, including some textbooks when a child asked for them or when I thought they were a useful resource in the upper grades. It isn't really a philosophy, either, because I don't have the time to create a whole new philosophy, and you don't have time to study one.

It is really just a mindset. it's the idea that you are a family, not a school. You're a mom, not a teacher. You don't have a classroom. You have individual relationships with your children. Your husband isn't a principal, because there isn't really a school. He is the head of your household, a dad, and your number one supporter.

In Life It’s OK To Ask Why - by Dumb Little Man | Post Adventist | Scoop.it

All the while most parade around struggling to keep up a front that isn't even realistic. We live in a society where questioning the status quo is frowned upon.

Just keep smiling and stay in line.

I want to share with you that it is perfectly normal to get to a point where you want to question when is your time going to come? Often it is the absence of these sobering questions that allow us to remain in a state of comfort and ease.
