Chia Yi Xuan's insight:

From this article, I see that the ethnic conflict between the Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka has a history spanning more than 100 years. I find it very shocking as their conflict last for more than a century. Since the both races live in Sri Lanka, I think that they should live together harmorniously and stop the ethnic conflict between them.I also strongly believe that they should be more accepting towards each other races.I wonder when this conflict will end and when both races will start living together harmorniously.

Jaslyn Si Jia's curator insight, July 3, 2013 6:45 AM

After reading this article, i learnt that there is a conflict between the Tamils and Sinhalese, which took place in Sri Lanka and lasted for over more than 100 years. As the Sinhalese have many benefits like, more job offers and further education opportunities, which the Tamils are unhappy about, thus conflicts between the two ethnic groups started.

I feel that the two ethnic groups shouldn't use violence to solve their problems. Its not worth it to get people injured or killed just to have that problem evened out. Both should talk to each other what their are unhappy about and give in to each other.

I wonder why they want to pursue the matter for such a long time.

Ameer Artsyrup's curator insight, July 5, 2013 8:59 AM

After reading this article, I believe that in order for a country to achieve progress, social, economical and political stability, it has to first achieve muti-ethnic harmony. this is true as different races in a country need to work in cohesion in order to benefit both the country and themselves. This can be seen as Singapore has gone through much progress since the racial riots end. However if racial instability has struck a multi-ethnic country, this will create a lot of problems for the country like major riots and civil wars. this will cause the country to fall in economical and political terms. This can be seen in Sri Lanka as it went through civil war which killed more than 100000 people. This war greatly affect Sri Lanka's economy and causes a major political instability in the country. Due to this, I believe that a country multi-ethnic country must achieve racial harmony in order to benefit everyone.

Evelynkoh's curator insight, July 5, 2013 11:23 AM

Peace and harmony , don't everyone want to stay that way forever? Thats why i seriously wonder , why would people want to start wars , destroying their paradise. In every country's road to success , there must be lots and lots of ups and downs , between its neighboring countries and even between their own people. We're all living in the 21st century , why would we still think in that manner that violence will solve everything? It never will , it will just make the matter worse and cause it to affect a larger amount of people and to last for an even longer period of time. The matter may start of small but because of the use of violence , the matter will start to enlarge and then it would not only be in-between the people who started the matter but the whole country. It will then be reflected badly on the race of the people and also the country. Bit by bit everything will start to fall. Therefore , to me i wonder , why would people want to make things that are simple into things that are so complicated that will cause major damages?

Chia Yi Xuan's insight:

After reading this article, my thoughts are that there are many ways to be successful in doing something. The father in this article trusts his son and gave him the role of CEO in the company, this led to their success in their business. I also think that attitude plays an important role in their success, the son said "I want to be in my position because I'm the right person." this shows that he got the determination and drive towards success and therefore he is working very hard towards his goal.I learnt that success is possible with hard work and the right attitude.

Lim Jun Heng's curator insight, June 29, 2013 10:32 AM

I can see that the main reason to their success is their attitude. The son want to prove himself to his father and the remaining of the company thus he did his best and more, and to not bring personal feelings to their work and to concentrate during work and not be distracted. I think that teenagers nowadays should have the right attitude when working, and give their best regardless of what they are doing. I wonder when will Singaporean teenagers adopt this kind of thinking, and not complain incessantly

Hui Li's comment, June 30, 2013 1:23 AM
After reading this article I feel that having the right attitude to do something is very important it helps to strive towards the goal you want and not give up easily. The father entrusted his company to his son because his son showed his father that he can do it through his determination and work attitude. I believe that everyone should have this mindset to achieve something. I wonder if SIngaporean students will have this mindset and not give up easily?

Chia Yi Xuan's insight:

From this article, I can see that Indians are not comfortable in having neighbours who are foreigners and that a staggering 43 per cent of Indians say that they wouldn't want to live next to a neighbour of a different race. I think that they should be more accepting towards other races and not be prejudice. After reading this article, my thoughts are that we are all human beings and we should accept one another regardless of race and differences. We should be more thoughtful about other peoples' feelings.I wonder if people will start accepting one another in the near future and whether this problem on racism can be solved.

India is the world's second-most racist country after Jordan. I think that people should be more accepting towards other races, their languages as well as their religion and not be prejudice. It do not matter what colour we are, as we are all humans, and have blood flowing in us. I wonder if racism will continue and is the government going to do anything about it . Racism had also become a serious issue.

Seamus Ong's curator insight, July 5, 2013 8:55 AM

This is my insight using the see-think-wonder routine. From this article I can see that people are being judged by the colour of their skin, accent and other stuff. I see that most races are being judged based on what the minority from the race does like how some act or talk in public and based on that, other racial groups are under the impression that all people of that certain race is like that and they thus sterotype or generalise everyone belonging to that race. this article makes me think that racism is a big problem and one of the main causes of conflict in multienthnic societies like racial riots. I wonder if racism will ever stop.

Asha Begum's curator insight, July 6, 5:20 AM

Treating the Indians in this way is not right. White men should change their perception of Indian people. Racism should stop because it is not fair to be prejudiced.

Gardens By The Bay: Singapore's Most Brilliant Architectural Innovation

Gardens By The Bay: Singapore's Most Brilliant Architectural Innovation | Possibilities,Conflict and Prejudice Assignment_Chia Yi Xuan | Scoop.it

Gardens by the Bay is the newest addition to Singapore's green space innovations, making this architecturally brilliant metropolis truly a “City in a Garden.”

Still a work in progress, Gardens by the Bay was named the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival 2012. The use of innovative energy saving technologies is a noteworthy element of this unique project.

More than 217,000 plants belonging to approximately 800 species and varieties are represented in the Gardens “with the hope that it will help to promote awareness of the wonders of nature and the value of plants to Man and the environment.” In this way, visitors are instilled with new or renewed awareness of plants, while experiencing different ecosystems without disturbing original forests. Gardens by the Bay also supports the sustainability of culture through a wide array of “edutainment” available onsite — from school programs to concerts  – to further enhance an understanding of this experience...

The Supertrees are vertical gardens that vary from 20-50 meters in height, which line the OCBC Skyway, a 128-metre long walkway that provide glorious views of the Gardens and Marina Bay area. These structures are created by wrapping a steel frame around a concrete core to support planting panels. The vertical “grove” allows the Gardens to showcase different plant species found in the different strata of forests, including epiphytes and orchids. In fact, there are approximately 162,900 plants representing more than 200 species on these manmade trees. Of the 18 total Supertrees, 11 are also embedded with environmentally sustainable functions such as photovoltaic cells that harvest energy that is later used in the nightly light up show. Some are also connected to the biomes and serve as air exhaust receptacles.

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder routine,

I can see from this article that Singapore has gained some recognition for its attempt to built a creative and interesting architecture while ensuring it to be Eco-friendly.
I think that this type of architectures are beneficial to everybody as it provides shelter for people while ensuring that the building is a great attraction through the usage of a large variety of plants that is Eco-friendly.
I wonder what would Singapore come up with that would allow it to gain such recognition once again by others

RuiHan Chia's curator insight, June 30, 2013 9:59 AM

I see that Singapore 's new addition, Gardens by the Bay, has already drawn international attention and was named the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival 2012. I think that Gardens by the Bay is good because it promotes energy saving and is a great tourist attraction and showcases many different plants and habitats. It also has great potential since it is not complete yet. I wonder how it will change as it is being completed.

Chia Yi Xuan's insight:

From this article, I can tell that attitude plays an important role in building up your character. Attitude can change what you have achieved, and what you will acheive. I feel that as long as we have a positive mindset, positive attitude and we work hard towards our goal, we can achieve it. Having a good attitude dosen't mean that we should just be positive in life, we should try to step out of our comfort zone and venture into new routes to success. Anything is possible. I wonder if friends or family members have any impact towards a person's attitude?

Teo J-lyn's curator insight, July 3, 2013 3:23 AM

I can see that when people are awlays being exposed to negative thoughts and information, they tend to make bad choices due to their negative thoughts, affecting the way he or she lead their life. This cause people to feel demoralised , which will also affect the way they think. Thus, it is important to think positive, and see the brighter side of life. This will allow people to strive towards their goal, and have their desired outcome. I think attitude plays a important role in the way we think. i wonder why do people not think the positive side of life.

Jaslyn Si Jia's curator insight, July 4, 2013 5:59 AM

After reading this article, I realized that positive attitude is needed to determine the life we're living in and also the possibilities that we can achieve. Many people may be affected in their life due to the negative thoughts and attitude that they have, if they had positive attitude in all the things they do, they would live a better life and discover things that they might have never discovered before. These positive attitude and thoughts leads to finding even more possibilities and lead us to the right path onto our future.

Coven Chong Weng's curator insight, July 5, 2013 7:09 AM

From this article, i realise that with the right attitude, we can come up with all different kind of outcome in some situations. If your attitude is positive for everything, everything might just turn out the way that you want it. However if you have a negative attitude, things will not go the way you want it to and it might get even worse. Thus, i wonder why some people dont think with a positive attitude.
