Wu Weiyang's insight:

I see that the Singapore government has implemented many policies and programmes to maintain the racial cohesion in Singapore. They have truly considered all aspects of race and religion and that is the key to our harmonious society now. I think that it is important that we do not have racial riots in Singapore because that would disrupt the peaceful lives of people and reflect badly on Singapore. Our economic will also be affected. The racial riots will lead to nothing, except lives lost and broken families. I wonder what will happen if such policies and programmes are not implemented.

RuiHan Chia's curator insight, June 30, 2013 10:27 AM

Singapore is a country with a multi-ethnic society and therefore it is vital for Singapore to maintain racial harmony. I can see that Singapore has set up many different policies and programmes to ensure everyone enjoys societal harmony. One example in which is the "bilingualism policy where students learn English and their own Mother Tongue". I think that this is good as it ensures that everyone lives in harmony. Also, these policies are reviewed periodically and tweaked to ensure they meet the current and future needs of the population. This makes me wonder that will racial harmony ever be broken? Will just one tiny straw break the camel's back?

I think that Singapore is a country with multi-ethnic society and thus it is important for them to mantain racial harmony. Or there will be many racial riots, and many lives would be lost.

OpenIDEO - How might we inspire and enable communities to take more initiative in making their local environments better?

OpenIDEO - How might we inspire and enable communities to take more initiative in making their local environments better? | Possibilities, Conflict and Prejudice Assignment by_Wu Wei Yang | Scoop.it

Singapore started out as a small fishing village but, rather quickly, turned into a sprawling metropolis. Like many other countries, it has reached a highly developed state. Public agencies such as Singapore's National Environment Agency would like to envision how to rejuvenate our local environments to inspire and enable communities to make our living environments better – and are eager to collaborate with the global community to explore solutions which resonate in Singapore and across the world.

Wu Weiyang's insight:

I see that Singapore has reached the status of a developed country and we are still trying to further improve ourselves. I think that collaborating with the global community will allow Singapore to be heard and enable ourselves to reach greater heights with the help of other countries' opinions. I wonder if there are other ways to make our living environments better other than collaborating with the global community.

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see that Singapore is eager to collaborate with the global community to explore solutions which resonate in Singapore and across the world, but are facing problems. I think that this will be a good opportunity to widen and build the relationship between Singapore and other countries. I wonder what can be done to solve these problems faced.

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's curator insight, July 2, 2013 12:17 PM

Using the 'see-think-wonder' I can see that Singapore is enthusiastic about collaboration with other countries. This is because a country cannot survive on it's own especially a country as small as Singapore. But even though Singapore is a small country it is recognised globally. I think that this is a great opportunity to foster good ties with other countries especially those in Asia as more problems are arising regionally and globally. By working together with other countries, global or regional crisis can be averted, like the recent Haze issue. Working together can prove to be effective and may stop major issues from happening ahead of time. I wonder what other ways can we foster good relationships with other countries and how we can solve the problems we face.

Teoh Jun Fang's curator insight, July 5, 2013 10:27 AM

(See-Think-Wonder) From this article, I can see that Singapore has developed very well and quickly over the years. Singapore started out small but now, it is a bustling city with good economy. Now that the population is growing, we need to have a good environment, connection with neighbouring countries, etc for the future generations. I think that working with the other countries is the best solution since Singapore is such a small country that does not have much natural resources. I wonder what will happen if other countries refuse to work with Singapore?

10 Inspiring Rags-To-Riches Stories

10 Inspiring Rags-To-Riches Stories | Possibilities, Conflict and Prejudice Assignment by_Wu Wei Yang | Scoop.it
With the Paris Hiltons and Kim Kardashians of the world so omnipresent in today's popular culture, it's tough to remember that success is possible without a rich dad and some nice connections.

Via Scott Span, MSOD
Wu Weiyang's insight:

I see that these famous celebrities had humble beginnings. When they were young, they lived in poverty and were often malnourished. I think that they are truly inspiring and it goes to show that success is possible without connections. As long as you have a goal and persevere ever onward towards that goal, you will achieve it. Working extremely hard (efforts) will pay off. I wonder what kept them going to achieve success.

A little inspiration...

Wai Kit's curator insight, June 29, 2013 10:09 AM

This article tells me numerous success stories among many famous people in the world. Many of them were poor when they were young, however, they did not give up and continued to strive onward. This inspired many people to never give up their goal.

Muhammad Ishbir Azhad's curator insight, June 29, 2013 11:44 AM

This article clearly shows famous celebrities who were nothing or very poor when they were young. Over the years, the they did not gave up and became who they are today. These celebrities are inspiration to some people who are experiencing the same thing the celebrities had when they were young. It clearly shows that one must not give up to pursue his or her dream. Anything is possible.

Prejudice and the fear of too many foreigners is especially prevalent in ...

Wu Weiyang's insight:

I see that Germans are prejudiced against Muslims and their religion, Islam, because they feel that Muslims are violent people who often plan terrorist attacks in Germany and post a real threat to security. I think that Germans should not stereotype Muslims just because of some major terrorist attacks committed by a small group of Muslims. I wonder if Germans could openly address the issue and stop targeting the Muslims.

Eunice Tan Kai Xin's curator insight, July 13, 2014 4:53 AM

I think that the Germans should be more tolerant towards the Islamists as majority of them do not have bad intentions. Also, the Islamists should not create violence in the country, so that the Germans' hostility and hatred towards Islam will be minimised.

Realization of reaching possibilities

Realization of reaching possibilities | Possibilities, Conflict and Prejudice Assignment by_Wu Wei Yang | Scoop.it

Wu Weiyang's insight:

I see that there are many factors leading to realization of reaching the possibilities such as specific personality traits and environmental factors. However, the most important factor is to believe in yourself, build up your confidence and have the desire to succeed. I think that women can be just as successful as men in the different faculties as long as they realize their talent. I wonder what will happen if the enviroment is not ideal to realize your talent.

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's curator insight, July 2, 2013 12:08 PM

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see from this flowchart that not only skills and talents are needed in reaching the possiblities available but also sheer determination and the disire to develop oneself's talents. I think people should always keep their end game goals in mind so that they will always be determined. I wonder how many people haven't reached their goals due to distraction or demotivation.

Teo J-lyn's curator insight, July 3, 2013 3:27 AM

As long as people believe in themselves, they will be able to do better in life, of course, with the support of their family and friends. In order to achieve what they want to, they must have traits like determination , and a sense of motivation.Taking risk and being patient and having self esteem is also very important. I beleive that with a good attitude and personalities, a person can achieve great talents.

Ameer Artsyrup's curator insight, July 5, 2013 9:52 AM

From this flowchart, I can see that there are many factors that may or will lead to the opportunities available. The flowchart also show that rescilience and the desire to excel is also needed to reach the possibilities other than having the skills needed to do so. Another important factor is that we must believe in ourselves in order to achieve the opportunities. Eventhough there are a lot of factors that has not got to do with us we are solely responsible in opening more opportunities.
