Sarah Seng :)'s insight:

The following is my insight on this article using the See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. I see that the ethnic conflict between the Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka has been going on for more than 100 years due to unjust treatment. I think that it is ridiculous. Why keep hating each other? If they could just stop giving their own ethnic race special rights, no blood would be shed. Why can't they treat each other equally? I guess it is due to the leaders of a country that decides the country's fate. I wonder when will this ethnic conflict cease to exist.

Jaslyn Si Jia's curator insight, July 3, 2013 6:45 AM

After reading this article, i learnt that there is a conflict between the Tamils and Sinhalese, which took place in Sri Lanka and lasted for over more than 100 years. As the Sinhalese have many benefits like, more job offers and further education opportunities, which the Tamils are unhappy about, thus conflicts between the two ethnic groups started.

I feel that the two ethnic groups shouldn't use violence to solve their problems. Its not worth it to get people injured or killed just to have that problem evened out. Both should talk to each other what their are unhappy about and give in to each other.

I wonder why they want to pursue the matter for such a long time.

Ameer Artsyrup's curator insight, July 5, 2013 8:59 AM

After reading this article, I believe that in order for a country to achieve progress, social, economical and political stability, it has to first achieve muti-ethnic harmony. this is true as different races in a country need to work in cohesion in order to benefit both the country and themselves. This can be seen as Singapore has gone through much progress since the racial riots end. However if racial instability has struck a multi-ethnic country, this will create a lot of problems for the country like major riots and civil wars. this will cause the country to fall in economical and political terms. This can be seen in Sri Lanka as it went through civil war which killed more than 100000 people. This war greatly affect Sri Lanka's economy and causes a major political instability in the country. Due to this, I believe that a country multi-ethnic country must achieve racial harmony in order to benefit everyone.

Evelynkoh's curator insight, July 5, 2013 11:23 AM

Peace and harmony , don't everyone want to stay that way forever? Thats why i seriously wonder , why would people want to start wars , destroying their paradise. In every country's road to success , there must be lots and lots of ups and downs , between its neighboring countries and even between their own people. We're all living in the 21st century , why would we still think in that manner that violence will solve everything? It never will , it will just make the matter worse and cause it to affect a larger amount of people and to last for an even longer period of time. The matter may start of small but because of the use of violence , the matter will start to enlarge and then it would not only be in-between the people who started the matter but the whole country. It will then be reflected badly on the race of the people and also the country. Bit by bit everything will start to fall. Therefore , to me i wonder , why would people want to make things that are simple into things that are so complicated that will cause major damages?

OpenIDEO - How might we inspire and enable communities to take more initiative in making their local environments better? | Possibilities, Conflict and Prejudice Assignment by_Seng Ying Lin Sarah | Scoop.it

Singapore started out as a small fishing village but, rather quickly, turned into a sprawling metropolis. Like many other countries, it has reached a highly developed state. Public agencies such as Singapore's National Environment Agency would like to envision how to rejuvenate our local environments to inspire and enable communities to make our living environments better – and are eager to collaborate with the global community to explore solutions which resonate in Singapore and across the world.

Sarah Seng :)'s insight:

The following is my insight on this article using the See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. I see that Singapore started out as a small fishing village, but quickly grew into a sprawling metropolis thanks to the hard work of the pioneers of Singapore. I think that collaborating with the global community will allow Singapore to develop even more rapidly and share our ideas and opinions with the world. As Singapore is a small country, collaborating with the global community is also vital for our survival. I wonder what will be the consequences if Singapore is not part of the global community.

Using the 'see-think-wonder' I can see that Singapore is enthusiastic about collaboration with other countries. This is because a country cannot survive on it's own especially a country as small as Singapore. But even though Singapore is a small country it is recognised globally. I think that this is a great opportunity to foster good ties with other countries especially those in Asia as more problems are arising regionally and globally. By working together with other countries, global or regional crisis can be averted, like the recent Haze issue. Working together can prove to be effective and may stop major issues from happening ahead of time. I wonder what other ways can we foster good relationships with other countries and how we can solve the problems we face.

Wu Weiyang's curator insight, July 3, 2013 11:30 AM

I see that Singapore has reached the status of a developed country and we are still trying to further improve ourselves. I think that collaborating with the global community will allow Singapore to be heard and enable ourselves to reach greater heights with the help of other countries' opinions. I wonder if there are other ways to make our living environments better other than collaborating with the global community.

Teoh Jun Fang's curator insight, July 5, 2013 10:27 AM

(See-Think-Wonder) From this article, I can see that Singapore has developed very well and quickly over the years. Singapore started out small but now, it is a bustling city with good economy. Now that the population is growing, we need to have a good environment, connection with neighbouring countries, etc for the future generations. I think that working with the other countries is the best solution since Singapore is such a small country that does not have much natural resources. I wonder what will happen if other countries refuse to work with Singapore?

Sarah Seng :)'s insight:

The following is my insight on this article using the See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. I see that these six women all have something in common, which is their underprivileged backgrounds. I think that it was only through sheer hard work and perseverance that they could achieve success. They believed in themselves and worked harder than anyone else to get what they desired, to escape out of the vicious cycle of poverty. I wonder what would have happened if these women did not have the fighting spirit and thirst for success.

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see six different women, despite facing obstacles and adversities, became successful all because of their hardwork and never-say-die attitude. I think that these 6 women deserve our admiration and respect as they started off with nothing, but could end up rising to the top. I wonder how they can be so determined, despite such difficult circumstances, can continue to persevere on.

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see six women who became successful through their effort and perseverance. Despite starting from nothing and the hardships they faced they never gave up and finally got to where they deserve to be. I think that these women are incredible because of their attitude towards life. It is often the people with little resources that have the most willpower. I wonder how many people in the world know of these six women and how many have been inspired to be like them.

Sarah Seng :)'s insight:

The following is my insight on this article using the See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. I see that black women are constantly being discriminated by people because of their skin colour which is thought to be ugly in society. I think that it is ironical that even their own community is prejudiced against them. I feel that this documentary will help to raise awareness about the blacks and hope that society can empathise with them. I wonder when will this discrimination against blacks stop.

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see that the blacks are treated differently from the others, as if they are not important, all because their skin color are different. I think that this kind of behavior is rather disappointing and disgusting, seeing how blacks are no different from us. We are all humans, we have feelings. I wonder what could have made them think that they can judge a person just from his/her appearance, without knowing anything about them.

Pua Peng Guan's curator insight, July 2, 2013 10:17 AM

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see that the blacks are treated differently from the others, especially in the past as if they are not important, all because their skin color are different. I think that this kind of behavior is rather disappointing and disgusting, seeing how blacks are no different from us as we are all human and there should be equality. All of us have feelings. So i wonder how the 'Whites' will feel if they are discriminated like that 'blacks'.

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's curator insight, July 2, 2013 11:43 AM

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see from this article that the black people are treated very differently from white people. White americans often discriminate the African American people and often look down on them. Probably since the African American were once slaves that were freed by Lincoln. But that was history and we should not let it repeat itself, just because others are of a different skin colour does not mean we should look down on them. After all, they too are humans, and so are we. I think that people who look down of the black people should really reconsider their reasons. Why follow others ways when it is known that they have made the wrong decisions? I wonder how the black people cope with such discrimination and how their daily lives go about.

Sarah Seng :)'s insight:

The following is my insight on this article using the See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. I see that women can achieve as much as men by having the following personality traits, environment and belief. I think that as long as someone has the confidence, the skills and the desire to succeed, this person will surely achieve great things. I wonder what can be done if a person does not have the above personality traits.

Teo J-lyn's curator insight, July 3, 2013 3:27 AM

As long as people believe in themselves, they will be able to do better in life, of course, with the support of their family and friends. In order to achieve what they want to, they must have traits like determination , and a sense of motivation.Taking risk and being patient and having self esteem is also very important. I beleive that with a good attitude and personalities, a person can achieve great talents.

Wu Weiyang's curator insight, July 3, 2013 11:21 AM

I see that there are many factors leading to realization of reaching the possibilities such as specific personality traits and environmental factors. However, the most important factor is to believe in yourself, build up your confidence and have the desire to succeed. I think that women can be just as successful as men in the different faculties as long as they realize their talent. I wonder what will happen if the enviroment is not ideal to realize your talent.

Ameer Artsyrup's curator insight, July 5, 2013 9:52 AM

From this flowchart, I can see that there are many factors that may or will lead to the opportunities available. The flowchart also show that rescilience and the desire to excel is also needed to reach the possibilities other than having the skills needed to do so. Another important factor is that we must believe in ourselves in order to achieve the opportunities. Eventhough there are a lot of factors that has not got to do with us we are solely responsible in opening more opportunities.
