OpenIDEO - How might we inspire and enable communities to take more initiative in making their local environments better?

OpenIDEO - How might we inspire and enable communities to take more initiative in making their local environments better? | Possibilities,Conflict and Prejudice | Scoop.it

Singapore started out as a small fishing village but, rather quickly, turned into a sprawling metropolis. Like many other countries, it has reached a highly developed state. Public agencies such as Singapore's National Environment Agency would like to envision how to rejuvenate our local environments to inspire and enable communities to make our living environments better – and are eager to collaborate with the global community to explore solutions which resonate in Singapore and across the world.

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's insight:

Using the 'see-think-wonder' I can see that Singapore is enthusiastic about collaboration with other countries. This is because a country cannot survive on it's own especially a country as small as Singapore. But even though Singapore is a small country it is recognised globally. I think that this is a great opportunity to foster good ties with other countries especially those in Asia as more problems are arising regionally and globally. By working together with other countries, global or regional crisis can be averted, like the recent Haze issue. Working together can prove to be effective and may stop major issues from happening ahead of time. I wonder what other ways can we foster good relationships with other countries and how we can solve the problems we face.

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see that Singapore is eager to collaborate with the global community to explore solutions which resonate in Singapore and across the world, but are facing problems. I think that this will be a good opportunity to widen and build the relationship between Singapore and other countries. I wonder what can be done to solve these problems faced.

Wu Weiyang's curator insight, July 3, 2013 11:30 AM

I see that Singapore has reached the status of a developed country and we are still trying to further improve ourselves. I think that collaborating with the global community will allow Singapore to be heard and enable ourselves to reach greater heights with the help of other countries' opinions. I wonder if there are other ways to make our living environments better other than collaborating with the global community.

Teoh Jun Fang's curator insight, July 5, 2013 10:27 AM

(See-Think-Wonder) From this article, I can see that Singapore has developed very well and quickly over the years. Singapore started out small but now, it is a bustling city with good economy. Now that the population is growing, we need to have a good environment, connection with neighbouring countries, etc for the future generations. I think that working with the other countries is the best solution since Singapore is such a small country that does not have much natural resources. I wonder what will happen if other countries refuse to work with Singapore?

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's insight:

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see six women who became successful through their effort and perseverance. Despite starting from nothing and the hardships they faced they never gave up and finally got to where they deserve to be. I think that these women are incredible because of their attitude towards life. It is often the people with little resources that have the most willpower. I wonder how many people in the world know of these six women and how many have been inspired to be like them.

Melissa Tan's curator insight, June 30, 2013 5:40 AM

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder. These six woman have come a long way to get the luxurious life they are currently living in. All of them had started living in harsh and poor conditions when they were young. These six ambitious women were still able to struggle their way through the poor condition they were living in. They were hardworking as they knew that they had to work much harder than the rest to get what they wanted. Today, because of their fighting spirit they have gotten a great job. I can clearly infer from this article that anything is possible if we work hard for it.

Chua Chong Yih's curator insight, June 30, 2013 7:26 AM

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see six different women, despite facing obstacles and adversities, became successful all because of their hardwork and never-say-die attitude. I think that these 6 women deserve our admiration and respect as they started off with nothing, but could end up rising to the top. I wonder how they can be so determined, despite such difficult circumstances, can continue to persevere on.

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's insight:

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see from this article that the black people are treated very differently from white people. White americans often discriminate the African American people and often look down on them. Probably since the African American were once slaves that were freed by Lincoln. But that was history and we should not let it repeat itself, just because others are of a different skin colour does not mean we should look down on them. After all, they too are humans, and so are we. I think that people who look down of the black people should really reconsider their reasons. Why follow others ways when it is known that they have made the wrong decisions? I wonder how the black people cope with such discrimination and how their daily lives go about.

RuiHan Chia's curator insight, June 30, 2013 10:12 AM

I see that 'black girls' are experiencing prejudice just because of their skin colour and they judge their beauty because of that. Just because someone has a different skin colour doesn't mean they are more beautiful or uglier than anyone else. I think that because of this prejudice, the 'black girls' are starting to think that they are ugly and lose their self-esteem. I wonder why people would judge beauty through a person's skin colour. This is just wrong and warped.

Chua Chong Yih's curator insight, July 1, 2013 6:06 AM

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see that the blacks are treated differently from the others, as if they are not important, all because their skin color are different. I think that this kind of behavior is rather disappointing and disgusting, seeing how blacks are no different from us. We are all humans, we have feelings. I wonder what could have made them think that they can judge a person just from his/her appearance, without knowing anything about them.

Pua Peng Guan's curator insight, July 2, 2013 10:17 AM

This is my insight using See-Think-Wonder thinking routine. From this article, I can see that the blacks are treated differently from the others, especially in the past as if they are not important, all because their skin color are different. I think that this kind of behavior is rather disappointing and disgusting, seeing how blacks are no different from us as we are all human and there should be equality. All of us have feelings. So i wonder how the 'Whites' will feel if they are discriminated like that 'blacks'.

Realization of reaching possibilities

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's insight:

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see from this flowchart that not only skills and talents are needed in reaching the possiblities available but also sheer determination and the disire to develop oneself's talents. I think people should always keep their end game goals in mind so that they will always be determined. I wonder how many people haven't reached their goals due to distraction or demotivation.

Teo J-lyn's curator insight, July 3, 2013 3:27 AM

As long as people believe in themselves, they will be able to do better in life, of course, with the support of their family and friends. In order to achieve what they want to, they must have traits like determination , and a sense of motivation.Taking risk and being patient and having self esteem is also very important. I beleive that with a good attitude and personalities, a person can achieve great talents.

Wu Weiyang's curator insight, July 3, 2013 11:21 AM

I see that there are many factors leading to realization of reaching the possibilities such as specific personality traits and environmental factors. However, the most important factor is to believe in yourself, build up your confidence and have the desire to succeed. I think that women can be just as successful as men in the different faculties as long as they realize their talent. I wonder what will happen if the enviroment is not ideal to realize your talent.

Ameer Artsyrup's curator insight, July 5, 2013 9:52 AM

From this flowchart, I can see that there are many factors that may or will lead to the opportunities available. The flowchart also show that rescilience and the desire to excel is also needed to reach the possibilities other than having the skills needed to do so. Another important factor is that we must believe in ourselves in order to achieve the opportunities. Eventhough there are a lot of factors that has not got to do with us we are solely responsible in opening more opportunities.

Politics and prejudice -- insights from Psychological Science

Politics and prejudice -- insights from Psychological Science | Possibilities,Conflict and Prejudice | Scoop.it
New research from psychological science explores factors operating in political attitudes that could explain why political ideology and prejudice are often linked.

Nathaniel Loreno Arendayen's insight:

Using the 'see-think-wonder', I can see that there are various types of prejudice towards certain stereotype groups and that it affects politics in a large scale. I think that these various types of prejudice should cease. Nothing can be gained out of hate, already bad situations only get worse when prejudice is involved. I wonder why the prejudice is such a commonly linked issue with politics.

Tan Kai Han's curator insight, June 28, 2013 4:01 AM

From this article i can see that there is prejudice toward various stereotyped groups.Chambers and colleagues hypothesized that, contrary to what some research might indicate, prejudice is not restricted to a particular political ideology. I think that people to conflicting values of liberals and conservatives giving rise to different kinds of prejudice, with each group favoring other social groups that share the same values. I wonder how do they feel after being treated so badly.

Wai Kit's curator insight, June 29, 2013 11:08 AM

From this article, I learnt that there are many types of prejudice towards various stereotype groups. People select and interpret evidence consistent with their own pre-existing attitudes and ideologies.
